In fairness, South Carolina and Vanderbilt are the two worst in the conference.

Hard to say.

Vandy is 128th (last in the country) in total offense, but 122 in scoring offense.

SC is 126 in total offense and 128 (last in the country) in scoring offense.

We bicker about this play and situation all we want but the fact remains is that we should never be at a point where we need to kick a 50 yard field goal or throw a hail mary to gain momentum at home on homecoming against Vandy...EVER.

This is an excellent point.

I mentioned the following to GurleyGurl in another thread:

We lack depth. normally depth is not a problem when we play vandy, Kentucky, South Carolina and Missouri. however, we also have an inexperienced head coach. once he gets more experience, we will again be able to beat those teams with depth problems. However, with depth problems, even with an experienced head coach we cannot compete with Florida, tennessee, Alabama, LSU. etc.

Hopefully, Kirby can add to our depth, get our OL problems straightened out and gain experience. IF this happens we will be ok. If any of those are not corrected, we cannot and will not compete for the SEC.

I've been a vocal critic of Kirby Smart, but he is dealing with a learning curve and a depth problem. He has plenty of talent to beat some of the teams we are struggling with, though.

WOW! I didn't know they were that bad!

I meant they were the worst two in the SEC!

Do we have shortcomings? yes. So does every other school in the country.

Got news for you...we have massive shortcomings in both areas right now. But the weird thing is how hot and cold we are...one week Eason can't complete a pass, the next he is Joe Montana...one week our backfield racks up 350+ yards, the next week it looks like they have downs syndrome (the oline look like they just want the game to be over so they can hit up Golden Coral)....one week we can barely make PATs...the next we are hitting 50 yard field goals...one week we are picking balls off and the next we are giving up game winning drives to Vandy.

I'm with you that it will take time, but we are not bad enough to look like we did saturday. The talent is lacking and the coaching has been abysmal.

No excuse for what happened Saturday. GA should NEVER lose to Vanderbilt....and at home no less.

I think massive is overstating things. I mean.....I think it was CobbDawg that pointed out that we could easily have beaten Vandy and Tennessee....and he is right. Now, we would have all seen that we had problems, but if our record was 6-1, we would be saying we have problems, but not massive problems.

The inconsistencies are very apparent, you are right. I agree. (Are you shocked? ) Me? I'll chalk it up to a very young team and inexperienced HC. We really don't adjust to what the defenses give us very well. We go into a game with a game plan and stick with that game plan come Hell or High Water. Our identity is a mixed bag and teams are treating us that way. One week a team says, "we will stop, the running game!" The next week a team says "We will stop Eason!"
It is really strange how it plays out, though.

Absolutely! I agree 100%. Well...let me back up. I'm not sure the coaching has been abysmal. I really like how they have gotten our TE's involved. I like the little FB out to the flat pass.....those things put enormous pressure on the DB's and LB's. certainly our coaches have made some massive mistakes, but some of those same mistakes were made by our last coaching staff.

Hey! I hope you see this.....I went back and did some checking on that marshall situation we were talking about, and you were right. I apparently did not remember correctly, or got the timeline incorrect. my bad, but I wanted you to hear me say "I was wrong, and you were right!"

I'm not going to read all this jibber jabber so SIAP..

Smart has never been in charge of managing a game before this year. He's only managed a defense... and generally done very well at it.

He's going to become a better game manager, it is inevitable. It is a learned thing. Let's hope he learns fast, or finds ways to delegate different decicsions better, or maybe take back some delegation from people who are screwing the pooch with it.

Right now Smart is too involved with micromanaging the defense, and I'm glad, he's getting good results with it, but he might be giving fatso a little too much freedom? Maybe he backs off the defense a little and gets in Jabba's business a little bit more during game planning. I don't know.

Thank you. I have no problem admitting when I am wrong. I never try to intentionally lie.

We don't agree on a whole lot, but I respect your opinion.

We lack depth, but our first string is very talented.

It may not be the right talent, though. There could be a disconnect between what the coaches are trying to do and what the players can do. Given all the turnover in staff over the last 3 years, that wouldn't be overly surprising. Maybe we've just got a team of square pegs and a system of round holes - we've got the wrong players, and the coaches aren't utilizing them correctly.
