Yes, I know. Not always, but sometimes they do, and I'd assume especially in a program like Illinois in a state where he coached at a high level for years.

UNC is a damn good team. They're going to make some noise in the ACC this year and are a quality win, a lot better win than just about every SEC team with the exception of Bama over USC

Illinois also outkicked its coverage in hiring Lovie Smith. Illinois probably won't be beating Michigan, MSU, or OSU anytime soon, but wouldn't be surprised if they seperate themselves from the B1G bottom feeders like Northwestern.
I think the fact the game was close, at least for a while, reflects more on Illinois' improvement than UNC's decline.

Illinois state beat northwestern yesterday. They have officially reached bottom feeder status.
