btw here is an updated as of today NIT projection

LINK

Have us as a 2 seed so we would play in Athens (unless meeting WF in the quarters) all the way to MSG.

Kneehigh...you don't think if we make it to the NIT and maten is iffy (but able) he would play?

Without yante we beat one of the worst SEC teams in years at home with 2 seconds left.

Not sure we have much hope to beat arky on the road without him.

We took Kentucky to the ropes and beat a decent Bama team on the road without Maten. There's a chance.

I mean it's possible WG. A lot of former players are urging him to sit out as long as possible to prevent further issues. I would think if UGA made it to Saturday in the SECT, Maten will play.

Maten will play the every game after Arkansas unless he reinsures it in practice. It's a sprain...not a partial tear that will get worse by playing on it. With knee support he will be fine next Friday.

We definitely have to play way more like we did against UK or Bama than we did against LSU.

If we play like we did in those 1st two instances I don't see why we won't at least compete.

I'm struggling with that as well. I think we want them to win, because we really don't have very many top-50 victories.

Same thing with tech playing tonight. So our wins get better but so do their resumes so they both stay in front of us?

There's plenty of crappy teams on the bubble. Vandy and Tech winning isnt going to really effect us if we keep winning.

That home loss to Marquette may end up being the deciding factor

I don't really think so. My guess is we lose to Arkansas and in our second sec tourney game (both without Yante).

The ones that really sting are the Texas A&M, road Florida, and both Kentucky games. we flat out caught no breaks

All over Twitter are these posts and quotes about how mark fox received s shite ton of "hate mail" for recruiting JJ. Is that even true? How could it be? People sent Mark fox hate mail over a short recruit before he even played? We don't have a rabid enough fan base for that and it doesn't even really make sense.

Dunno how much "hate mail" he might have received, but maybe like a half dozen letters that might have been less than friendly criticizing his recruitment I could buy. We don't have a rabid enough fanbase to send in like a truck load of WTF letters, but I could see a handful.

ETA: I'd honestly be curious to hear whether this happens more often than you think... in football probably as well. I'd bet coaches get letters from some pretty dumb fans.

Agreed. I'm calling BS to this entire story. I could see fans calling out Fox's inability to recruit, but specifically calling out a 2-star guard seems like a stretch. Fox created this story to motivate JJ

quote:

After the win over LSU, Fox cracked that he wished he had kept the hate mail he got for signing Frazier. Asked to clarify on Tuesday, Fox said he literally got mail saying, “Why are you signing this guy?”

“Usually that goes right in the garbage anyway,” Fox said. “He was unusual because he wasn’t very big, and he’s from a small town in south Georgia, no one ever really saw him, and just because he’s from a small town doesn’t mean he shouldn’t get the same chance everybody else gets.”

Not for nothing, but that seems like something you might save at least one of... kid gets cocky, or needs some motivation... "I took a chance on you... there were plenty of people who didn't agree... get out there and prove me right/them wrong..."

Anyways. I think the "hate mail" label is probably a bit hyperbolic here. Maybe some questioning of his recruiting in general, but highly doubt there was pointed hate at JJ.

Don't look now but Lunardi has us in the First 4 out. How in the hell are we there and who do we want to lose now?

Honestly, at this point, it's less about who we want to lose, and who we need to beat. Our resume flat out isn't strong enough as is... even with some losses by other bubble teams, what likely happens is teams pass us and we sit on the bubble.

To have a legit chance in, it would take wins over Arkansas and Auburn to close out the season, and then likely 1-2 wins in the tournament (which I think someone broke down to include another win over Arkansas). The reality though is that without Maten, taking 2 off of Arkansas or any good team is going to be a tall task. It's not impossible, but also tough to get your hopes up.
