i wouldn't. he cant do it anymore. whether you like fox or not, matta is not the answer.

id be more interested in tom crean, actually, who has shown he can really turn a program around, granted that program was indiana. we are in a much better spot than indiana was when he took over, but they are also indiana so not sure what he'd be capable of here.

id fire fox for neither, though.

Still think the guy can coach. Wouldn't mind having him in Athens.

If they "demanded" excellence, they would have fired him after less than 4 years of sub par play and recruiting.

Matta has been trending down since Evan Turner left Columbus. This move was probably a few months too late, but it was the right one.

Matta also has health problems stemming from a botched back surgery several years ago

Hell, he made the Dance 9 years out of the 13 he was at OSU and the first year OSU was ineligible for post season play so it is really 9 0f 12 and advanced every year save one with a runner up, sweet 16s and elite 8 and a final 4 in that mix. When he didn't make it, he made the NIT twice and was champion once. The last year, he did not make the post season. And both is regular and conference record is much better than Fox.

I am not suggesting that we hire Matta, but that is the stuff of Fox's dreams.

My point is that even with that record, OSU made a move, while we languish in at best neutral, for eight years mind you. That speaks volumes about the degree of not give a shite of the administration.

Shame really.

at acting like our programs are even remotely comparable historically.

They certainly haven't been under the reign of Matta and Fox.

Tired of the excuse and tired of the rationales for mediocre results at best. Just hire the right guy. He can be found.

The point is the Matta just got fired with a pretty impressive record and Fox kicks the can down the road with nothing to show for it. OSU demands to get better or at least will try to. And we demand nothing at all.

Don't look at the overall record and look at the direction OSU has been trending. That's why he was fired.

I'm guessing they did this knowing they had a specific coach in mind, such as Gregg Marshall.

OK. Matta made the Dance 7 of his last nine seasons. The last 2 he fell off, with 1 NIT (which we celebrate when we make that) and missed the post season in his last year. Matta is the best coach OSU has had since the late 80's.

Oh, I guarantee that. I am not writing to trumpet Matta but to compare OSU and UGA. OSU just fired the best coach the have had in 30 years for essentially a 2 year and one could argue 1 year downturn. Because they want to excel. While UGA is quite content to wallow in the mediocrity of a soon to be 9 (that is right 9) year stint by Fox. The contrast is stark and disappointing.

Ok so a great program fired their coach for a decline in progress.

That has literally nothing to do with UGA who is neither a good program nor declining in progress.

It might be an excuse, but it's also a factual statement. Ohio State has as many Final 4s all time as we have tournament appearances. Their stadium almost holds twice as many people as ours.

That sort of stuff matters when it comes to recruiting which helps you win down the line.

That is the same as having a kid that makes Ds and Fs in school and being OK with that.

UGA = the kid in 11th grade whose parents are crackheads, has made straight D's his whole life, been held back 3 times, and has finally, in the last semester, made a C.

OSU = the kid in 11th grade who lives in a subdivision, parents read to him growing up, makes As and Bs, and slipped up last semester and made a C.

That sums it up.

One kids parents bought him a brand new Escalade and the other one fixed up his Suzuki Samauri from his gay uncle.
