WG, I had a big long posted in reply to you in a thread that was whacked on tSRANT, and no way I was letting it go to waste. Actually looks like it kind of fits in here:

quote:

I would never consider charging people to come to a tailgate, unless I was providing all food and alcohol, in which case it'd be for my buddies anyway so I'd just ask them to chip in.

in our case, the tailgate owns and provides everything. The tailgate is set up as an LLC. It has its own credit cards, bank accounts etc. The tailgate owns two trailers, and has to pay insurance on those trailers. The tailgate has 3 50"+ TV's, its own direct Tv acct. These aren't someones personal TV being lugged out there every week. The tailgate owns the keg jockey boxes, and pays for the multiple kegs and ice every game. The tailgate pays for the food, the premium liquor bar, the soft drinks and water, the kids juice boxes etc, you name it, its there. The tailgate owns 2600 sq ft of tents, which don't always last more than a few years, as well as all the tailgate chairs. And this is still leaving out stuff that the tailgate pays for.

That money needs to come from somewhere, and there needs to be money left over at the end of the year to cover and repairs or replacements, as well as always buying newer things to have the best tailgate experience possible.

I think that is well worth paying money for. You wouldn't bat an eye if a bar or restaurant wanted to charge $35 for food and drinks included to watch a game, why would a tailgate be any different?

and all of that makes sense. I didn't click the link in the OP of the whacked but I assumed it was just regular joes who ordered a keg or somethign and were like "hey give us money!"

Something like you described is obviously different.
