Not with regards to drug tests and stuff like that UF and aTm are two other SEC schools in the AAU and their enforcement is interesting to say the least. I think it's safe to say Vandy isn't cheating much.

I doubt the AAU places much of an emphasis on sports. At all.

I'm just saying the AAU prolly doesnt approach many schools with the "factory" label

And outside of GT fans, UGA isn't considered a "factory."

Your school rank in the top 10 for recruiting, attendance, merchandise sales, etc. etc. etc. for the last 20 years?

Oh I forgot, can't have good academics and decent sports programs.

If you used your criteria for a "factory" and looked through the list of AAU schools, it'd be enlightening for you.

Are you serious about engineering?

Prove it.

But in all seriousness, using your criteria for a "factory," schools like Texas, USC, Ohio St, Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn State, Oregon, UNC (more specifically basketball), Florida, aTm, Mizzou, etc. would not be able to be in the AAU. Then others that are pretty big sports schools like Arizona, Kansas, Cal, UCLA, Iowa, and so on would be out too.

I think the lack of a med or dental school has been a big factor for UGA (especially since we didn't have much in the way of engineering) and that's why Adams set in motion the steps to help start the Athens MCG campus with the hopes that UGA will take it over eventually. If I had to guess.

They did kick out Nebraska after they flipped conferences and maybe A&M got in recently but the other schools go back 30+ years

They kicked Nebraska out before they flipped conferences and Nebraska was worried it might affect them transitioning to become a Big 10 member since that has always been a Big 10 requirement.

And Nebraska even acknowledged they'd been fearing it for years mostly due to the AAU requirements involving research funding and the percentage of faculty in the National Academies.

Yea, aTm was the only recent addition of that list. Obviously tech is as well. And I didn't list those schools earlier meaning to imply that they aren't great academic institutions too. Just that they're also big sports schools. You can have an emphasis on both.

I know TripleBrass says plenty of nerds go to UGA & I believe him.. but the type of nerd it takes to tap into the big research money isn't the same type that would hang out in downtown Athens or go to a school b/c of its football team

at assuming just because someone likes to have fun or go downtown they can't be smart or do research. Whether GT fans like to admit it or not, the hope scholarship has increased the competitiveness of UGA a lot.

But hey, whenever yall get tired of yalls 500 MHz NMR, yall can send samples over to UGA to run on the 900. I'm sure someone would be kind enough to take a break from their weak research to do it.

The average UGA full professor got a salary of $109,400 in 2013-13, according to the survey, up from $103,100 five years earlier and higher only than full professors at Louisiana State University ($108,900) and Mississippi State ($96,400).

Georgia, the highest-paid full professors teach at Emory University, another private school. Among public schools in Georgia, Georgia Tech full professors are the highest-paid at $142,600. And with an annual salary of $89,700, Tech assistant professors earn more even than Emory assistant profs.

The numbers could spell trouble for UGA in the future.

“One of my greatest concerns is retaining the best faculty at the University of Georgia, and the Great Recession has prevented the state from providing merit raises in recent years,” said Jere Morehead, UGA provost and future university president.

From that article:

But UGA needs to be more pro-active in rewarding experienced professors, the administrators said.

You don’t want to get into the business of having to retain faculty through counter-offers. By that time, they have emotionally moved on.
And now the entire thread has come full circle.
