As mentioned, it's a separate bar from the actual restaurant. They're just cashing in on both crowds (BBQ and folks on Milledgeville wanting a walking distance bar). Depending on the parking situation, I could see myself partaking in both sides - though not at the same time for all the reasons you mentioned

Consider that the large residential neighborhood behind the place is heavily gentrified and they have no "neighborhood pub". Saucehouse could be trying to serve that need with the cornhole and bar in a separate building, to drive revenue throughout the slower summer months.
I often stop for a couple beers when i'm getting dinner to go for my family, which alot of people might do at this place, and having some decent beer on tap serves those customers.

I try not to get sucked into DR weirdness but based on pics and YouTube vids of current day Monteg and then the pics of future Monteg...I am intrigued ...
