We want Bowles.

I think Bowles and Quinn are the 2 best coordinators in the game. If the Falcons hit on either, they hit a home run. Now if the Falcons hire Doug Marrone, well, then I’m sorry.

Rex is now in a very similar situation to his early years with the Jets before. Really good defense and awful QBs. Odd choice.

Something tells me it's going to be McDaniels now.

He reportedly wasn't asked for a 2nd interview by Dummytroff. He said he didn't want to wait around for the Falcons. Blank is such an idiot for keeping that dumbass around. Dude is awful at his job. Looks like they will hire another coordinator who has no head coaching experience to field another wanna-be team. Dummytroff knew Rex would fire his sorry arse as soon as he got hired so he drug his feet..

Quinn would be good IMO but the falcons blew it on Rex. Really did. If they hire Marrone or McDaniels I won't feel bad watching the franchise sink further. Because they had a chance to make a decent hire.

I thought Dimitroff lost control over any head coach responsibilities during the restructuring?
quote:

The Falcons are in the midst of a head coaching search to replace Smith, the winningest coach in franchise history. Dimitroff also loss control of the head coach as a direct-report in this restructuring.

“While this decision was not tied to the head coach search currently underway, we also believe that independent thinking and collaboration will contribute to taking us to the next level in our league,” Blank said. “Therefore, our new head coach and Thomas will report separately to me.”

Also sounds like really unfortunate timing regarding Blank's mother passing though it seems like they still could've had a way to assure Ryan the job was his if he wanted it.

quote:

Ryan had an extended interview with the Falcons on Tuesday. During the interview, a source said, owner Arthur Blank found out his mother had died. Blank put all business on hold, meaning scheduled interviews with Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin and Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles were pushed back to Friday and Saturday, respectively. There have been reports about Ryan not liking how the Falcons were dragging their feet. But Blank has every right to move at his own pace, particularly while dealing with a family tragedy.

I read on ESPN that Blank suspended all team activities due to a death in his family and that's why they delayed the second interview on Rex. I think a braintrust of Rex and Trestman would have been very good in Atlanta.

Feeling Strung Along by Falcons, Rex Ryan Took Bills Coaching Job

quote:

The realization first struck Rex Ryan just past 10 o’clock Saturday morning.

He wanted to be the next Falcons head coach for a million reasons, but rumors and a cold silence from the people that he’d hit it off with just days earlier made it impossible for him to separate fact from fiction.

He thought he had the Atlanta job seven years ago before losing out.

F--- it, he thought now. He wasn’t going to be played for a fool again.

Ryan would have canceled his trip to Buffalo Thursday morning if the Falcons had committed to bringing him back for a second sit-down, according to sources, but there was hesitation on the team’s part.

Gist of the article is that Dimitroff took the opportunity of Blank being gone to not give Rex a call back.

Palace intrigue.

He might be too good for Blank and Dummytroff. They want guys with no HC experience to come in and keep them out of the playoffs. The best fit for the team wouldn't be their choice.

I'm starting to think Dimitroff & Pioli are scared of an established coach who might usurp their power...
