“The Athletic Association will complete an Indoor Practice Facility behind Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall, which will enable football, track and other outdoor sports to practice year-round in a climate-controlled facility. Architectural drawings and schematics are being drawn up now and we have begun securing the necessary funds to begin this project. The initial estimate of the facility is $12 million. Projections for completion have yet to be determined but we are hoping to break ground on this project immediately.”

Is it going over the track or some of the practice fields?

If I had to guess, it'll go over one of the lower practice fields. The track won't be touched and Football doesn't need an additional practice field to t ~4 it already has

I'd say the other one, actually. If you're going to put it there, you'd may as well maximize space.

Apparently if you have an AJC subscription & can read the whole article... No location has actually been picked yet...

If that's true... frick you Chip for that tease & par for the course with the AJC Sports dept. Possibly inaccurate BS being reported again....

Any idea when the renderings will be released to the public?

Before anyone ask, yes, $12 million is really cheap for an IPF. Let’s keep in mind the remodeling to BM a few years ago cost $40 million and includes most the necessities (meeting rooms, weight rooms, offices, etc.) that other schools have included in their IPF. For instance, Auburn spent $16.5 million, but it included a lot of which is already built into BM. Tennessee is the same way. They have their meeting rooms, weight rooms, etc flanking their IPF. So in other words, we should all be very excited. Hopefully it looks good

So no state of the art facility for us? $12M is cheap.

Still great news though

I’d say Butts-Mehre is a state of the art facility, the IPF would be an addition. If you haven’t visited, I’d encourage you to walk through the building. In total, the facilities will have cost $52 million. I’d say that’s a damn good investment for the future. I just hope it’s aesthetic and maintains the structural integrity with Foley and BM.

I believe that the official Spring meeting for the Athletic Board is tomorrow (though, with the weather, I have no idea if that's still the plan).

We only need the shell since we have the other facilities.

We are out of room so either a practice field or the track must go.

Another thought is that they may do a large facility on top of the current natural grass fields and attach it directly to the current BM set-up

I'm waiting until we have renderings to show. This shite is all lip service until something tangible is there to show.
