Yeah but the complacency happened after the NC. Look at Saban after all of their NCs. Right back to work getting ready for the next season.

Saban makes sure that he earns the money that he's paid.

Actually Richt did, too. Look at a lit of salaries for coaches and Richt made less than many coaches that had less success. One example would be the Iowa coach.

Of course, the argument could be made he would have made more money had he had more success, but the point still stands that less successful coaches were out there that made more money.

I think MOST coaches (if not all) earn their pay. (I may be misunderstanding you) They put in 12 hour days 6 days a week 12 months a year....as a whole. Don't get me wrong. They make good money. But the stress, pressure they endure is unbelievable. they are second guessed, criticized publicly by the media, fans and players on a regular basis. then, normally there is conflict of egos between coaches. The Pruitt thing was extreme, but not entirely unusual.

Changed to reflect what I meant to say. I had to go somewhere and got in a hurry. Sorry for the confusion.

Saban is the exception to the rule, though. Which is why he is one of the very best of all time. There may have been one or two coaches all time that have been better....but probably none, in all likely hood.

Actually, he made less money than all coaches that made more money, but that's not important right now.

Richt was a worse coach than all of the coaches who were better than him. But, to be fair, I have to also give him credit for being a better coach than all of the coaches who were worse than him.

Excellent points!

I'll see if I can find a list of what coaches made. I think you'll see what I meant. (How embarrassing!)

Got it.

Richt was 12th in the Nation salary wise.

Charlie Strong
Kevin Sumlin
James Franklin
Hugh Freeze
Art Briles

all mad more money than Richt. I'm not sure any of them did more than Richt and I KNOW most did not less.

For that matter, Jim Harbaugh was second in the Nation. Granted he coached with some success at both the college and Pro Level, but he never won a National Championship, either. (I will give you that most would rather have Harbaugh as coach, though)
Richt being 12th is based on base pay by school and other outside pay.(Endorsements etc) If you go ONLY by base pay (What the school pays) Richt drops to 16th behind the Iowa coach(Kirk Ferentz) and Dan Mullen.
