Anything big enough to mount a rail gun and make it from Lumber City to the coast WTSHTF.

I like a boat. Other people's boats.

I agree, especially for offshore.
It's alot easier to offer a friend $500 fuel to go out for a day, several times a year, than to assume the tens of thousands of dollars a year in boat ownership.
Pontoon boat at the lake, much easier to take ownership of.
But even that.. realistically, for about $300 a day, you can rent them. They are clean, already at the lake, don't have to tow them, and you don't have to clean up after yourself, change the foot oil, impeller, spark plugs and this and that, fricking with the trailer, .... just pay your $300 every other Saturday June through August and it is only $1800. A hell of alot less than ownership and you don't have to do all the work.

I agree as well about the offshore boats. I think people that can afford those things pretty much probably pay somebody to deal with all the hassles though. And it isn't a deal.
I actually enjoy the maintenance and responsibilities of taking care of a smaller boat though. Pride of ownership and all is a small price to pay for freedom in a world where it's vanishing.
The fishing sucked today, but I saw 3 bald eagles. Lure hits water and there's this thump thump whoosh over my head as one of them set sail. That's medicine right there. Take your one a day multi vitamin and get 30 minutes of exercise a day, but you need that type of shite too for true health.

Before I had a kid, I agreed with this. At the moment, it's about time. Only 24 time-segments in a day-segment, and fricking with a boat is just not something I can fit in any available segment.

Did you try to hit it with a rattletrap?

We saw a bald eagle circling today over the pool. There are some nesting pairs on the Saluda below the dam so you see them every so often.
What are the odds?

No. I've seen a turkey buzzard taken down in mid flight by a thrown golf club once though.
Also, on the coast seagulls will dive at your shrimp or mud minnows when you cast, so i gurantee someone somewhere has a story about reeling in a rat with wings seagull.

What's up with the dual power-pole phenomenon? They sprung up overnight like black truck mag wheels did.
WHy would you need two power poles?
You need them for the same reason you need a 250hp yammie on a 17' flats boat.
To kill yourself because God Hates Assholes.

When I was a kid my pops used to take me up to hartwell dam to fish for stripers and hybrids. The technique back then was to first jig for blue back herring, folks call them shad but they're herring, after you catch a couple you put a hook through its back with a balloon tied about 6' above it, throw the live herring back in and leave the bail open. The fish would swim off, the balloon is your bobber, and wait for a striper to hit.
Anyway, a guy next to us fishing the same way caught a seagull on one of those herring. Dude was drunk as hell and pissed so when he reeled it in he tied a balloon to the seagull and threw it over the edge of the landing that we were all fishing on below the dam. The seagull flew about a hundred feet and just fell in the water. No idea what became of it but it probably wasn't good. This pissed off several of the fisherman who witnessed it and he got dragged up to the parking lot and went home with a few bumps and bruises.
Funny how things stick in your mind.

Working on my boats is actually my relaxation time.

Got 3 actually ... a Chaparral 257 SSX for family outings, a Phoenix 721 ProXP bass boat that I don't get to use very much, and your basic Tracker Topper 1032 Jon Boat that my 16 year old and his buddies keep at the river most of the time. I sold a old model 16 ft Glasstream bass boat about 2 months back. Hell, I had it for probably 10 years or more. It was still in pretty good shape though, gelcoat was faded but still a decent boat.

If it flies, f****, or floats its cheaper to rent than own.

1963 Sears 14' aluminum v hull inherited from my dad. My uncle bought it when I was 8 to replace the wooden boat my dad had that was getting rotten. They/we fished together a lot when I was growing up. He was drunk when he put the numbers on it and they are crooked. I laugh every year when I put the sticker on it thinking of my uncle Bill.
