That's why I can't see a good coach at a good program wanting to make that move. If I was Lanning I would use it as leverage for a raise at Oregon but I wouldn't want to take that job.

There isnt any upside. Your either just as good as the last guy or your a failure.

No kidding…because when this happens to us it’s not televised and we don’t get questions from the media.

If there is a great coach, why not follow Saban?

There isn't a program setup for more success than bama.

A great coach can do great things at Bama.

And if someone is stupid enough to compare the next coach to the greatest of all time, who gives a frick?

Take the 1 or 2 natties and wipe the shame away.

Because Bama fans will need 10 years in the desert before they can handle Saban’s first season again without firing him.

Rumors Lanning would target Schumann for DC. just don't see why Schumann would leave after he told Saban no for the same spot last year.

But could be for something else idk

Maybe the timeline with Saban (age) being shorter than the timeline with Kirby was a factor.

Lanning doesn't have that issue.

Schumann has the linebacker room that he wants in Georgia.

I can't see the lateral move.

Lanning can help him get another nice paybump though.

My son told me their top target is Dan Lanning. Any word on this?

They would be crazy not to offer Lanning IMHO.

My pilot checked all GenAv arrivals into Ben Epps today and none from Tuscaloosa or Birmingham.

What is GenAv?

This came from a tracker for Wheels Up. Drew Butler shared it but not sure on accuracy

He said a Beachcraft 400 jet which is a small one is scheduled from Tuscaloosa to arrive at 11:41. Tail number WUP676.

Also said planes into Athens from Knoxville, Gainesville and Auburn.

Same plane is scheduled to leave Athens at 2pm and head to St Augustine. Says it doesn’t appear to be based in Tuscaloosa.

Says WUP tail number sounds like a Wheels Up plane.

Lanning may be announced as soon as tomorrow

I'd be truly surprised if this were to happen. He not only has a $20M buyout, but he also has a ton of that sweet, sweet Nike money. And while I'm sure he wants to eventually make it back to the SEC, he has his program in Oregon humming and has repeatedly said he's there for the long run.

Bama is certainly a top job, if not THE top job, in NCAAF, but there's quite a bit of downside to being the guy to come in after Saban. If you win the West/SEC, you did what you were expected to do. Stumble in year 1 and you're a complete failure.

Bama was the top job before NIL because they arguably had the best underground NIL before it was legal. Now things have changed. Hard to say who will have the best legal NIL, but it looks like the Texas teams will. Oregon will shine in the new NIL world. Teams like Clemson show what happens when they can’t bring in players like they used to in the new environment.

Great point. My mind too often wanders back to the good ole' days.
