It does, but I'm not sure that Alabama will stick to their guns on this under media scrutiny, especially after they just let Chris Black transfer to Missouri.

Alabama didn't "just let" Black transfer to Missouri:

quote:

Given the news surrounding Maurice Smith and Alabama not allowing him to transfer to Georgia, some fans have wondered why Alabama head coach Nick Saban allowed wide receiver Chris Black to transfer to Missouri.

Black, like Smith, was set to graduate from Alabama and play immediately. Like Smith, Black wanted to go to an SEC school. But Black got his wish in part because of when he filed his release from Alabama

According to a report from Matt Zenitz of AL.com Black’s request to be released was filed the week of Alabama’s game against LSU. The Crimson Tide were ranked No. 4 and getting set to host the undefeated and No. 2 ranked Tigers when Black filed his request to be released.

Per an NCAA Bylaw, schools have seven days to respond to a player’s request to release and transfer. If a school does not respond within those seven days, a player is given a full release, meaning they can transfer anywhere.

Alabama never responded to Black’s request, thus allowing him to transfer to any school. Given the Crimson Tide were playing LSU, Black’s request fell through the cracks.
Per Zenitz, Saban didn’t want Black to have that ability but he ultimately had no say Smith’s request was responded to and he has been told he cannot transfer to any SEC school.

So while LSU may not have beaten Alabama, the Tigers did get a small victory over the Crimson Tide in somewhat allowing Black to transfer.

Smith waited until the offseason to submit his paperwork. He probably should have submitted it the week of the playoffs.

He can still come here, but he'd have to sit out and redshirt this season.

From my understanding of it Bama would have to release him from his scholarship. Idk though. That's just what the mods on 247 are saying.

It's not quite as bad as Saban having him out in the backyard chained to a tree but littly Nicky looks kinda shaky.

It's a good sign if Saban is blocking kids from transferring to play for the school you root for.

That's the way I'm reading those tea leaves.

both have the same concern, they don't want a bunch of kids jumping ship to Miami or UGA based on previous relationships with a former coach.

Good God,no one is advocating kids "jumping ship" This kid is going to freakin graduate and has done everything asked of him by Bama and he still has to sit out a year. This is not some can worms that's going to open and if someone graduates from an institution they should free to pursue a career at any school they choose.

If a player has eligibility remaining and he wants to go to a grad school other than the college he matriculated from he should be allowed to play for the new school. The SEC rule is anti-education and so is Saban.
