We had many questions going into our first game v UNC.

1. Would Chubb overcome the mental aspect of his injury?

2. Would Eason's talent at the high school level translate to success at the college level?

3. Would CKS be as effective as a head coach as he was as a coordinator?

4. Would our OLine play improve under Pittman?

5. How would Chaney use our TEs?

Question #1 was answered for me. I know it's early but were any questions answered for you?

Yes.

Small sample size, TBD. Looked good, not great but hard to gauge at this time.

TBD - Realistically this is an end of season question and then an ongoing evaluation. At the very least, let's get through the UF game to try and assess where he stands.

Short answer is "kinda". It's early and they have a game to clean some things up. Run blocking was probably an A- from the line alone, but the TE/WR blocking really helped out a ton. This was a *huge* improvement from last year IMO. Chubb was forced to get a ton of his yards after contact last season. Pass pro maybe a C-/D+... have some kinks to work out there. Fortunately, after this week's tune up, while Mizzou shouldn't be a *huge* test, their D-line should give our O-line enough trouble to get fully up to speed for the next 2 games.

5. How would Chaney use our TEs?

TBD. From a blocking standpoint, they were monsters. Gameplan dictated not a ton of passing and a couple of drops made them less than ideal targets. I expect it to be a game to game flow which is fine. As long as they're in consideration, I think most Dawg fans will be happy.

#1 was answered and we got a glimpse at the others.

Eason did very well considering it was his first look at D1 football.

CKS made a few mistakes but his handling of the QB situation showed he knows a thing or two about football and coaching (also the team in general played well enough to show that there wasn't a drop-off from last year: he's at least as good as CMR in terms of coaching players)

OL looked good in rushing situations and struggled a bit in passing situations. Really tough to tell. Recruiting has picked up but it's still too early to tell about their play.

The TEs weren't used much in the passing game but I really liked how he was using them while we ran the ball. Putting three TEs can really give us options.

The kicking game does have me concerned. Hopefully Butler can somehow help.

1- Obvious

2- Can't say after 1 game but there surely aren't any glaring negatives. Threw downfield, made mostly correct reads for a TFr, looked poised, made good decisions. Seemed to lead the team well and shhould only get much better

3- Impossible to say after 1 game

4- Again only 1 game but I'd say this is a big check mark. Looked shaky on the first series but when realize our LT is a guy that wasn't here a few months ago, our C was a different position last year, and our RG was recruited for DL and our RT started out as a guard...I'd say I'm pretty pleased.

5- Another check. they didn't stuff the stats but we used them creatively and they helped open big running lanes. Our TEs will be fun to watch this year.

One question answered is that this team is still gonna cause me to drink heavily of Fall Saturday's.

I wouldn't mind so much if I could watch a game in peace. Kids make it more stressful than it already is.

I need to hire a babysitter for game days.

He's been with them for a while now. If they haven't improved then there isn't really any more he can do.

You should be spending this time teaching them how to be good fans of the game...

That's the plan once they are a bit older. I have a 3 yr old and a 1 yr old. They aren't sitting down for three hours to watch football with daddy yet. They would rather run/crawl around and screech.

I must have passed out because I don't remember all of the delay of game, false start, offsides and illegal substitution penalties. I don't know how I missed them....

I laughed at the fact that UF put on open try outs for a kicker last year....now I feel that Smart should do the same
