The only 4.5 QB we had was James Jackson.

And he couldn't throw accurately to save his life, plus I believe he was smaller than Shockley. Correct, Cracker?

He threw a good ball. He was just 5'10". We would have had a shot in the NFL at CB. Great athlete.

many RBs at the NFL combine don't run a 4.5
Yep but those guys are big power runners and yes, my expectations are probably unrealistic. Let me put this way: I want a Deshaun Watson instead of a Faton Bauta. Looked it up and looks like Watson runs about a 4.7 in the 40 yard dash.

Yep, it's a "no shite Sherlock" comment for sure but hey, Watson was an in-state recruit that from all accounts we made insufficient effort to reel in. In any case, he's now one of the best QB's in the nation for the #1 Clemson Tigers and one of many examples of the one that got away during Richt's tenure.

Zerrick Cooper
I guess he visited a few times but didn't fit the old scheme and with Watson locked in at Clemson we could probably jump back in on him.

There you go. Yet another: one that got away.

Hey Cracker, I didn't think to ask this before...but was Gary Moss still on the team while you were there?

One to watch imo. Not EE I don't think so UGA has some time
I think UGA has to try to sign two QBs now or pick up a transfer

Definitely. This could get sideways real quick under center.

agreed, Clemson also signed 2 dual threat QB's last year and with us being so thin I would think Zerrick would look at our depth as attractive.

Are you saying that because you assume Eason is gone or because we will need a 3rd qb now that Bauta is leaving?

We need Eason and someone else. Need 4 QBs

We are down to 2 scholarship QB's. We will take 2 in this class. That is a must.

If he doesn't transfer as well.

I've never cared for this line of thinking.
For starters, we have a big state with 8 big programs pretty close, you aren't going to get everyone. For every watson that goes away, there are just as many that don't pan out.
For instance, in the 2012 class (picked because it was 4 years ago, giving us a full body of work) of GA, the top 10 were:
1- JHC, bust
2- JJ, panned out
3- Mike davis- alright
4- joanthan taylor- bust
5- geno smith- panned out
6- ukeme eligwe- never heard of him
7- ricky parks- bust
8- jaquay savage- bust
9- dillon lee- servicable
10- brandon greene- never heard of him
It's real, real easy to just say "we shoudl have had him!" wihtout realizing there's 20 busts for every watson. On the flip side, we've pulled stafford, knowshon, gurley, sony, murray, imac, AJ, momass, and countless others from other states, I'm sure they're all saying "how did we let that happen?"
Also, it's obvious that hindsight is perfect. It's really easy to look back at the past and say what we would or should have done. In watson's class, he was the #1 Dual QB, but at time we already had a QB commit from J Park, who was ranked the 5th best Pro style QB. It's not like we were absolutely desperate for someone (like now) and whiffed.

UGA football factoid: he's the one who recovered the fumble in the 84 cotton bowl that led to our GW TD.

Plus, even if UGA filled every class with nothing but kids from within our borders, there's still 9-10 for every scholarship that has to go to other programs. There were something in the neighborhood of 250+ kids from GA that went to FBS schools.
