Anyone have an idea of of the general outlook for this year's baseball team? I understand that with a new coach, the draft, portal, etc. it's hard make a precise prediction. Just wondered from those that follow this more closely.

Not good. Didn’t have much last year and lost Tate. Charlie Condon is back though and should be fun to watch.

I’m guessing we will finish in the bottom 4 of the SEC and miss the NCAA tournament again.

However, with the renovations and excitement around the program, I believe the future is brighter than it’s been in a while

that could've been said the minute following stricklin's firing. Until I die I will never understand how our ADs kept mark fox and scott stricklin around as long as they did. It's nearly criminal how much those guys set back each program.

Lol how did Mark Fox set back the basketball program? He brought it UP from the Felton years. Totally screwing up his successor's hire set the program back.

Going to be the deepest offensive team Georgia has had for a while. Condon is an all american and potential top 5-10 pick. Gonzalez and Collins are both back, but will have to perform to stay on the field with the amount of players brought in. Tre Phelps is the jewel of the recruiting class. Top 5 guy in state and top 100 in the nation. Transfer wise we are getting guys from Baylor, Mississippi State, Purdue, Florida Atlantic, etc. The class is a top 15 class.

I dont have any insight but I could see a lineup looking like this

C-Logan Jordan(Campbell)||.301/394/.529
1B-Lukas Farris(W Kentucky)||.291/.363/.544
2B-Paul Toetz(Purdue)||.335/.425/579
3B-Slate Alford(Miss St)||.248/.313/459
SS-Kolby Branch(Baylor)||.326/.430/.509
OF-Charlie Condon||.386/.484/.800
OF-Clayton Chadwick(Sam Houston)||.294/404/500
OF-Dillon Carter(Texas Tech)||.267/.449/.555
DH-Corey Collins||.267/.415/.505

Fernando Gonzalez||C||.234/.369/.431
Dylan Goldstein(Florida Atl)||OF||.297/.413/.538
John Marant(JUCO)||OF/DH||
Tre Phelps||3B||

Pitching is the big question mark and we will see if Wes Johnson really earns his reputation and money in his first year. Biggest names coming back are Will Pearson, Charlie Goldstein, and Chandler Marsh. Also, a returning Coleman Willis will hopefully find a spot in the rotation with his huge potential. Here is a list of transfers we are getting in but none instil confidence and most are relievers.

Brandt Pancer(Stanford)||RHP||4.18 ERA, 47.1 IP
Zach Harris(Georgia Southern)||RHP||7.85 ERA, 36.2 IP
Brian Zeldin(Penn)||RHP||3.74 ERA. 21.2 IP
Josh Roberge(Southern New Hampshire)||RHP||3.36, 78 IP
Daniel Padysak(Charleston Southern)||RHP||3.19, 42.1
Christian Mracna(George Mason)||RHP||3.09 ERA, 32 IP

The offense will probably be able to do a good bit of damage and could possibly be one of the best in the conference, but the pitching will tell everything. If Johnson can make a difference in a short period of time, we could host a regional or be a solid #2 seed. If the pitching needs a year, we are probably losing a lot of high scoring games and will be on the wrong side of the bubble.

the act alone of him being our coach isn't what set us back, him being here for nine years is what did.

thanks for that

Mark Fox sucks. It's not debatable. He reminded me of Butch Jones except way less successful. I had no idea that there were Dawg fans willing to defend him. Until just now.

Mark Fox was a mediocre coach before the portal. Post portal he is useless, as proven by his record at Cal.

That's not the point. UGAs basketball program as a whole is a fricking joke. Saying Mark Fox (or the fact that he wasn't fired earlier) "setback the program" is just impossible. He got us to two tournaments and won 20 games three years in a row...which had never been done before in our history under the same coach.

Not about the coach, but the program.

This will be a total wildcard season. New coaching staff, damn near entirely new roster with a ton of transfers. OOC schedule has been amended a bit. It’s going to be an interesting year.

Since virtually the whole roster has turned over, I’ll just forego pretending I know what’s going to happen and outsource to Dasher after he talked to Wes Johnson: LINK

this season as you said is a total question mark, but I'm more excited about the program than I have been in years. Stricklin had gotten beyond stale and it was well past time for a change, and Wes seems like a guy to take us in a bit of a different direction.

I’m definitely optimistic, even if we are only average this season. By 2025 we will actually see a physical change to Foley’s 3B line and should have clarity on the 1B side and right field. Just tired of seeing the same above average but not great teams in a park that hasn’t looked industry standard since 2008. Any departure from THAT is a win in my book.

Off topic/On topic, this is my sons last semester at GA (graduating in May), we went to 5 or 6 games last year but was mainly during the week. Do people tailgate in the parking lot behind the outfield on the weekends before games? We will probably go to more this season. Looking forward to the new coaching staff and team this year.

Yeah. Its not a ton, but usually you will see a few people tailgating over by the LF fence. Just dont take up extra space, and you should be fine.

If no one else wants to start a season thread, I will.

Anyone? Tyler?

You take the reins. Too busy with kids to properly keep up, though I’ll add commentary

This lineup looks fun, to be sure. Tons of depth. Won’t know for a while what the arms are going to do facing good bats but this has been a fun opening weekend all around

Condon might be the best hitter in all of college baseball

They are scared to pitch to him and when they have to he rakes. He’s reached base in 10 of 13 PAs so far
