Just checking in... how many of you hindsight BoBo worshippers criticizing Fat Chaney's play calls still remember Bobo's 3rd and 11 Ealy up the middle?

I remember it. I also remember being the best offense in the SEC over his last 4-5 years.

Bobo had his moments but for the most part he had become a top notch OC by the end of his tenure.

Offense did pretty good, but lets not get carried away. In no years was it the best in the SEC.

We led the league in total offense in 2011 and were in the top 4 each of his last 4 years. The only other team to be in the top 4 every year during that span was Bama.

We were pretty fricking great offensively and we've been pretty fricking not since.

I gotta tell you...I really liked Mike Bobo.

However, I have very few complaints about Chaney, either. I like a lot of what he has brought to Georgia.
We do seem to run the ball up the middle and awful lot, but he also has done some pretty nice things offensively that we have not see at UGA.

You might want to doublecheck that.

This. We definitely missed Bobo after his departure.

We definitely missed Murray after his departure.

Bobo isn't doing so well at Col St. He just needs to get the right players in place.

His performance as an OC in the SEC and his performance as HC of Colorado State is apples & oranges.

...was significantly boosted by the Todd Gurley toss sweep that was undefendable.

And Vince Dooley won a Natty because toss sweep was boosted by Herschel Walker. What's your point?

No doubt he had some good players, but that could be said about every good OC. Kind of gives you the chicken or the egg scenario. Did the OC make the players good, or did the oC make the players good?

With Bobo, I think it was a little bit of both.

Bobo didn't make Gurley better.

Gurley made Bobo better.

Well, by that argument, Chaney has made Chubb worse.

In this scenario, you are probably right. Gurley made a lot of people look better. The OL. The St. Louis Rams. A LOT of people!

Then imagine how awesome Herrien would be if Chaney wasn't holding him down.

That could be true, to an extent. Part of the problem is the offense struggling with blocking assignments. Too many defenders are getting untouched into the backfield. Until defenses quit attacking the LOS on nearly every play, or Chaney finds a way to consistently beat that with a freshman quarterback, our RB's will struggle.

Stop putting wide receivers in motion back towards the ball on running plays might help, since it pulls the defense back towards the middle. Rewatching the Vandy game, they had linebackers and DB's lined up close and moving forward at nearly every snap. Chaney and company have to figure out how to overcome that, or Florida will shut us down.
