Doesn't mean they don't have strengths. Just not what I'd call "innovators".

But the "great" teams are the ones recruiting in the top 4, and recruiting at a high level for multiple years in a row.

Only Bama has done that the last 4 years.

they aren't the only team that's been great recently. Going back the last 5 recruiting classes (not counting the last one since those folks are true freshmen), top 4s are:

2015- Bama, USC, FSU, UTn
2014- Bama, LSU, OSU, FSU
2013- Bama, OSU, UF, UM
2012- Bama, Texas, FSU, UF
2011- Bama, FSU, USC, Texas

-Bama has recruited better than anyone and has better results than anyone
-Ohio State is a regular here and they've been a playoff staple and perennial CG contender
-FSU has won a title during this time span while appearing here 4 times
-USC and Michigan are both making noise and appear setup for solid runs coming up

Granted there are some outliers of course (for instance Notre Dame finished 5th in 2013 and they suck), but in general if you're recruiting top 4/5 recruiting classes, you're going to see major dividends with halfway decent coaching. Hauling in 10th ranked recruiting classes is good enough to finish top 4 or 5 in the SEC but it aint winning you any titles.

Like I said only Bama has gone top 4 every year. Should we do better?Sure but still more concerned about roster managment and filling our needs every year. Two things CMR was not good at.

ok...and my point was refuting fatneck's assertion that all our coaches the last 50 years have been "great" recruiters.

I can understand that it is hard for Johnson to relate to the level of recruiting that is required to compete at the highest level in the SEC.

If PJ "calls it like he sees it" does he look in the mirror every morning and say "you're a washed up piece of shite with little much more to look forward to in life"?
