“I get a kick out of when people say they don’t have any players,” Johnson said Monday following the Jackets’ first practice in preparation for the Bulldogs. “Compared to maybe the Pittsburgh Steelers or something. I mean, they’ve got a lot of good players. They’re running around everywhere.”

Johnson would know, given that the Jackets face Georgia annually and recruit many of the players who end up in Athens. He has said on various occasions that Georgia is a school that recruits itself.

“When’s the last time the University of Georgia didn’t have a top-10 recruiting class?” he asked on an AJC podcast . “So Coach (Vince) Dooley was a great recruiter, Ray Goff was a great recruiter, Jim Donnan was a great recruiter, Mark Richt’s a great recruiter. Who was a bad one? Because I don’t remember having a coach when they weren’t top 10.”

the word "recruit" should be used very loosely here. Rarely do we go head to head with a recruit and miss. just because turkey neck offers someone we are after, doesn't mean we are competing with each other

Only Paul Johnson can turn UGA out recruiting tech into a negative for UGA and a positive for tech.

And only the tech fanbase would lap up the fallacy like mothers milk.

Richt just took it right out of y'all didn't he? Just sucked the air out of the room for so long that y'all have convinced yourselves that losing to UGA by less than 10 is practically a victory because of a talent dispatity that Johnson created. It's amazing.

He's absolutely right in this case. Georgia has a lot of talent, certainly way more than Nicholls, or Vanderbilt, or South Carolina, Missouri, Kentucky, ULL. That hasn't stopped us from struggling against all of those teams and it won't stop us from struggling against GT either. I keep hoping they'll put it all together and play like a well coached team. Hope springs eternal but I'm not confident that'll happen this weekend.

No he isn't. He is right about us "having a lot of good players". That much is true.

But we have not been "great" recruiters. I know when you recruit in the 50s nationally, 10 seems like such a high mark you can't possibly envision what it would feel like. But for big boy schools, finishing 10th in recruiting is pretty good, which is what we've been. But the "great" teams are the ones recruiting in the top 4, and recruiting at a high level for multiple years in a row.

And despite having SOME great players and a few 10 win seasons, goff was in no way a "great" recruiter.

Out of curiosity. What do you think would happen if we all went over to StingTalk and started a bunch of Georgia threads?

So how does a GT fan that starts GT threads gain access here?

I don't mind Christopher, really, but I don't particularly like seeing threads talking about what a great "innovator" Paul Johnson is.

I'm just confused by the concept of the triple option being innovative in 2016.

I was thinking the same thing. I was going to post something on that and changed my mind. It's not like he invented it, or even changed it.

it's different message boards...I'm not sure if you're just being facetious here lol.

They have access because the mods of this board haven't deeemed them unworthy yet (probably only a matter of time, especially after this weekend). The mods on stingtalk don't even give anyone else the opportunity.

Nobody ever said UGA didn't have talent. However, they are deficient in a number of areas. One, receivers are not that great. Godwin was a five star but he hasn't live up to his billing. Maybe we just aren't getting him the ball, but the talent isn't their compared to previous years. The offensive line is devoid of talent and recruiting in that area has been weak for years. Receivers and offensive line, along with a true freshman QB are the reasons for our woes. Mainly struggling to control the line of scrimmage are the reason for our offensive struggle.

Claiming CPJ is an innovator for using (and consistently failing with) the triple option makes about as much sense as a lawyer claiming to be innovative by going back to a dot matrix printer.

It's only innovative in the sense that no other Power 5 conference team is desperate or stupid enough to use it.

Congrats?
