I still shake my head at Richt when it comes to Shockley. I understand that it really was a wealth of riches for y'all with both he and Greene on the roster, but I still think Shockley was your best chance at winning it all had he been developed as the starter over Greene. That one season with Shockley was an injury in garbage time away from getting y'all to the BCSCG.

What's the real opinion on him leaving (I know I won't get it on tRant)? I thought folks were fairly high on his skill set despite him not really coming along yet. Although, lately I've heard whispers that he had Tyler Bray syndrome (talent but 10 cent head - although truth be told I think 90 percent of Bray's problem was Dooley + no motivation/work ethic and the other 10 percent lack of maturity and much of that in retrospect had to do with Dooley being a crappy headman when Bray needed a firmer leash and an actual example of leadership to follow in order to grow and mature).

Thoughts on Park? Is he just not serious enough (I mean that happens too)?

He's got a big arm. He was just buried on the depth chart with another super highly recruited QB coming in in December.

Any statements I would make about what held him back would just be speculation. Maybe he has issues, but there's a good chance that the numbers game was the main reason.

There's simply no way to say that. DJ was tremendous for us, no doubt. But how could you rightly say he should have started over Greene after 2001? You can't. Greene did everything we asked/he needed to do. In fact, the reason we didn't play for a title in 02 is because of DJ shockley (partially, anyway). Greene started 5/5 with a TD and we were in control. We put DJ in and he lost his rhythm. And of course he later threw a pick 6.

I love shock, he was a fantastic QB, but I don't see anyway that you could have made a fool proof case back then that he should have been the starter.

He got hurt in the 2nd quarter against arkansas, not garbage time. And even when he came back full strength against AU, we still lost. We wouldnt' have gone ahead of USC/UT anyway, even with a win over UF.

Appreciate the honesty, Crow.

If his arm is as good as advertised, he needs to land at Duke. As long as he's coachable, Cutcliffe can reach anyone. The man is like the QB whisperer. BUT with Coach Cut he does have to be coachable because the man tolerates no shite. He'll break or runoff any prima donnas sent his way fairly quickly (though he's probably mellower now than he used to be since age mellows everyone).

Park was an elite 11 qb and aggressively recruited by all the big big boys including bama. Another elite11qb committed to bama and within an hour Park committed to UGA.

Being from SC, he had no allegiance to UGA. He wanted to be a Richt/Bobo qb and now bobo gone and richt has him pretty low on the depth chart.

I also believe the VA qb coming in did not cause Park to leave, i think we recruited him because we knew Park wasnt going to stick around in a backup role.

Park came here to get a chance to start and now thats over. And, he only committed here b/c the other hot shite committed to Bama.

Who was the other hot shite?

I guess it was Blake Barnett but 247 say Park committed first on 6-14-14 and Barnett committed later on 6-18-14.

Eason's interview with AJC pretty much sums it up. He was told they were looking for a grad transfer in case something happened. He welcomed that as competition.

Best of luck JP. Wish it woulda worked out better.

Porter! Thanks my man. deeprig is right that I've been around for a little while. I've posted sporadically though when I find a good topic I like to participate if/when I have anything to add.

Oh and thanks everyone for the thoughtful replies.

There was something about that season that I'm misremembering then. Seems like Shockley got hurt in a situation where he shouldn't have been on the field. I remember that Auburn game well - what a damn heartbreaker. Tough game all around.

My point was, Shockley seemed to lift the team when it looked like they were out of it. That was an impressive season capped by a SECCG win over #3(I think) LSU ... but then that damn WVU game. Anyway, think of what he did in that one year, then imagine if that level of talent and special ability had been starting for you for three or four years.

I get what you're saying about Greene, though ... again, abundance of wealth at that position during those years.

Would love to get Bailey but I know early playing time is high on his priority list. He loves Richt but really loved Bobo more. Would be a recruiting coup if he inks with the good guys.
