Based on staff number restrictions, I don't know of a single school in America that has a coach that is solely dedicated to ST. It'd be an enormous waste. We haven't done anythign differently than saban or anyoen else. Why you think that richt didn't care about ST just because another team played well on ST in one game is quite odd.

Smart has one. He must have see that UGA ranked 49th in special teams in '15.

Yeah? We have an assistant coach whose only job is to coach ST? Who is it?

If I never have to see our return team go full retard on the high pooch kick and have no idea what they are supposed to do, it will be a win in my book.

If that team was UGA last night, the missed FG, kick coverage and punt return blunders would have been hyper analyzed and our football coaching specialists would lament the fact that, even though we did some good things, the lack of a special teams coach caused us to not play a complete special teams game.

We are one neurotic fan base. We are never happy. If we win....we should have won! If we lose (Even if we all knew we should have lost) We should have won!

When we win we pick every negative out of the win until we feel like we lost. We should have won by more points........it's always something!

No. he doesn't. He hire Shane Beamer who will coach special teams and TEs.

Probably what Alabama was thinking after the Kick 6. Wasn't that the first time in history that has happened? I think I read that somewhere.

It wasn't the first time a play like that has happened, but I THINK it was the first time it's ever ended the game.

AH! Thanks for the clarification, WG!

Going back to what you, and others, were saying....EVERY team has miscues. To try to point fingers at one coach is disingenuous. (Or however you spell it. Nice big word though, huh?)

Every knowledgeable Dawg fan on the planet knows it's Beamer. Who was it last year?

Cool how you ignored the second point of my post "He must have see that UGA ranked 49th in special teams in '15".

Last year Lilly and Sherrer split the duties. You do know that Beamer is also the TE coach, right?

Look, I'm not trying to get on your case, but he is right. I doubt there is a single college team in the country that has a dedicated ST coach. They all share the responsibilities, or split them among several coaches.

ETA

Whoops! Just saw that apparently Stanford has one.

The point of my OP is that UGA was ranked 49th in special teams in 2015. I think CKS sees this as a problem and has dedicated resources to solving it. WG, you may be okay with how things were. But I think most UGA fans would like to see a tighter ship. More like the one in Tuscaloosa.

However, Stanford does have one. MOST schools give ST responsibilities to another "minor" position coach. Like UGA will have the TE coach also coach ST.

I think most understand...but most are also tired of Richt being the point of every negative post. He did a great job while at UGA. There were problems, no doubt. But he is gone. Let's honor the memory of the good he did and accept that he is gone. We've moved on.

Mark Richt is a very, very wealthy man. Neither he nor any of his children, if they manage their money right, ever have to work again if they choose not to. He is also a very public figure who benefited from a lot of public affection. With that comes public criticism, which we are all entitled to dole out. As an alum with 2 kids presently at UGA, I am not happy with the job that he's done while my kids have matriculated at UGA. They were both at the UT, Bama and UF games this season on my dime. So I have skin in the game. I think if he had paid more attention to detail, like Nick Saban does, UGA would have been much more successful in the past several seasons. I was in Knoxville, among many of his other humiliating losses and I'll continue to criticize wherever I see fit. Those who don't agree with the OP can simply hit the "do not read" button. Or you can do like WG and argue on every thread on DR.

I'm likely done with posts about CMR. I don't think he'll be very successful at the U but I could be wrong and wish him all the best. He's a very good man who could have done a much better job at earning his pay at UGA, IMHO.

Alabama has certainly had their share of bad ST play in the recent past. Missed field goals, fumbled returns and a disastrous kick six on the plains.

Hopefully, Beamer will improve our units.

In the very least we'll know who to blame if he doesn't.
