DT's Down Under was another good one at that time.
That place was basically an underground, tiny space for frats to get away with doing coke in the open.
Also, I believe it was an 18 and older bar.

O'Mally's had $1 bloody Mary's starting at 6am on game day.
Hell, they had "Drinkin' with Lincoln" for a while on Sundays - penny pitchers of beer. Not sure what it was (spill tray runoff from Friday/Saturday, maybe), but it made Carling's Black Label look like Dom Perignon.

Nickel night at Lowry's - paint thinner and mixers, pretty much.

O'Mallys was a happening place in the mid 80s. RiverMill was in high demand as you could walk to campus and walk/stagger home from O'Mallys.
They did have quarter beer nights. But the beer was Meisterbrau or something like that. I tried it once and asked for my quarter back.
I wish I could remember the other bars names better. There was a place downtown that was called Madhatters, then changed to The Warehouse. I don't know what it is now or if it still exists. TK Hardys, a couple that popped up and down each year with new names. The Odyssey for early in the day (is it still there?)
Of course back then you could freely walk up and down Milledge and participate in the various Greek parties. Which was much fun for those of us with no affiliation.

It's literally the tab place for most fraternities when they have socials.
I feel that and the freshmen/out of town game day pull keeps them afloat

Went to O'Malley's the first night of my Fresh year '90. Scored with a girl with bug eyes and caught sht the entire rest of the year.
Bartender at Lowery's for 3 years. Wish I could remember half the things that happened after a Thursday nickel night.

That's what it's all about. I remember bringing some skank back to the dorm from Ho'malleys and several of the guys on my hall were all hanging out. It takes game to score in a dorm room with your idiot hall mates yelling and banging on the door.

I lived at 321 East Clayton. The configuration on my block looked like this:
Second level- vacant loft / My loft
Street level- Flanagans /High Hat Blues
Underground- Half Moon / Ratskellar
Four bars within 20 feet of where I lived. Good times.

Was it the black dude that ended up at the Flying Buffalo?
Posted on 9/8/16 at 9:54 pm to Broncothor
TK Herty's and Flying Buffalo were big at the station when I was in grad school in the 80s...The Oddessey became the nowhere bar... Went there with my kid who is at UGA now a few weeks ago and it is much tamer

Getting smashed was only fun when I was under 21.
Sky's Place, O'Malleys, Abilene Icehouse, City Bar, Lowerys... lots of choices for a drinking town with a football problem.

As a Pi Kapp that saddens me. Flannagans was a shite bar. Our stomping ground was Boar's Head when I was there. Also City Bar.

Jump Around was House of Pain. You may be thinking of Insane in the Membrane, which has a similar break beat and similar release date.
