One week we have good pass protection, but shite run blocking.

Other weeks we are good at opening up holes, but shite at giving Eason time.

Why can't this line be consistent at both in one game?

Watch the game on YouTube. Watch how our players on most plays seem to be blocking a guy, yet the LBs are shooting the gaps unimpeded. On run plays at least. I don't see players whiffing. They are just not being blocked. To me, that is scheme or coaching.

It looked exactly like the Nicholls and Mizzou games. The RBs just had no room to run.

When a team sells out to stop the run nobody can run. If a team decides to sell out to stop the pass it is very difficult to pass. The staff has to pick out which one the other team is determined to stop and do the other. The fact that the OL looks good on one or the other tells you it isn't the OL.

In short, too long a post to say..."See what Peter Buck said above."

It's painfully obvious, if we had taller/better WRs we could pivot and go air raid to flip their gameplan to back off stacking the box. I was at the game yesterday and its sad how excited I was that Chigbu didn't drop one of his atempts. Our recievers are good for how small they are but are not elite. Still not impressed with Godwin's inability to block when he has to help Ridley or Wims. Ridley looked good, Nauta looked good but has to stay on OL duty to help block.

Seems JE needs to also add working on touch and throwing a more "catchable ball". Watching his receivers (actually) catch a 10 yarder, he rifles it in so hard it knocks their hands back pretty far. Makes me wonder if he's smoking it in too hard at times on those ~10yd tosses, especially when he's under pressure. Elite WRs should be able to handle it but we know what a cannon he has. Could be contributing to the drops. It would be interesting to check the speed of his passes.

SIDE NOTE: I recall Arron Murray talking to Gruden on a Gruden QB Camp segment about relentlessy working on the back shoulder pass and it was deadly. I am not saying we don't do that now but I don't recall really catching one being thrown deliberately. Can anyone else speak to that?

I posted and the deleted this in a thread below cause it goes with the topic here....

The most disheartening thing comes my out of today is going forward. Every team, everyone of the teams we have played this year so far excluding Vanderbilt is worse against the run , than the teams we have still to play. And even at that Vandy is worse that's all of them except UK , who is better than USC, MIZZ, UNC, UT, and OM.

This includes La Tech.

The OL has got to figure it out or we could lose out. Seriously.

UGA is at 19 bowl game streak, we might not make 20.

Good post. Definitely agree about Eason. Some players seem to have good common sense football instincts while others need coaching on every fine point of the game. Common sense tells you that you don't have throw a bullet most of the time on a 10 yard pass. Accuracy is much more important than velocity on such passes. Eason definitely needs coaching on both accuracy and touch on his passes depending on the situation.

And yes, Eason had an overall good game yesterday but his receivers definitely helped him out on inaccurate passes.
