Any insight is welcomed... Seemed like he turned the team around with the coaching change & the personnel moves...

Same ole Atlanta pro franchise BS??? Seems like a no brainer to reinstate him. Someone gonna get a gem....

he called Luol Deng an african or something along those lines in an email a while back before the season started. no reason to fire him though. espeially this long after the incident.

I thought he was cleared of being racist/bigoted cause he was recorded reading offa a scouting report, not expressing his personal views???...

Just saying it seems pretty punitive to me. "BUT" it's prolly gonna be the best thing that has ever happened to Ferry when he goes to a premier program & wins 3-5 NBA Championships...

Typical city of Atlanta bullshite.

Can't call people names or they might get offended.

Can't call a spade a spade.

Oh wait.

i don't Think ferry should have gotten in trout for this. But the actual email was kinda racist. The email said Deng could be too black at times in relation to discipline. There's no way that should have been written by the scout.

The only reason Ferry was pushed out was because this came out right around the whole Donald Sterling thing. The thing is, the PR backlash with Ferry was minimal. If he was kept around, no one would have said a word. People had pretty much forgotten the email that he didn't write. It was something deeper with the owners I bet.

They just pushed the best GM the franchise ever had out the door. Pretty stupid as they will soon find out.

Youre confusing two different situations. You're thinking of the email that Bruce Levenson wrote to Ferry about "too many blacks attending games".

Danny Ferry didn't get sacked over an email and what he said wasn't even his verbiage. Ferry was reading a scouting report on a recorded conference call that his scouting department wrote.

First of all, this started with a tift between owners. Gearon and Levenson wanted Joe Johnson, but Steve Belkin rejected the trade deal. So Gearon and Levenson filed a lawsuit and actually got the Atlanta Spirit board to remove Belkin as board Governor. Then they completed the trade for Joe Johnson. Belkin got pissy and sued the Atlanta Spirit Group and also began making claims that Levenson was a racist. During the law suit discovery process, Belkin's attorneys released the racist email by Levenson and then the recording of Danny Ferry reading the scouting report saying Deng was "too African".

Our always thoughtful media decided to brand Ferry a racist even though it wasn't even his words, but still condemning him for even just reading it.

It's really all a shame. I'm glad Levenson sold his share of the group and bugged out because his email was clearly racist, but Ferry was nothing more than a victim of our media sensationalizing political correctness to yet another extreme.

And now the new owner, Antony Ressler, simply wants a fresh start and to distance the team from anything resembling a blemish or scandal. And it sucks because Ferry is a damn brilliant GM. To this day, I still don't know how he got the Nets to take Joe Johnson from us AND give us a 1st round draft pick. I mean it's the greatest trade in the history of this franchise, and the architect who built us a 60 win team is now gone because he read a scouting report that called a black player from Africa, "too African".

Thank you Liberalism.

Yep, came out during the Sterling thing, and now the Charleston thing....

PR move.

The only player I remember hearing interviewed about it on the radio said "No, I'm not offended! I DO have some African in me! It's racist to assume that's an insult!"

I wish I remembered the player's name.. I don't think it was the player that Ferry was specifically talking about, a different player when asked if it offended him.

That actually was Deng that came out and said that.

And Beefdawg pretty much summed it up. Gearon never liked Ferry, and the Joe Johnson trade was the icing on the cake. Gearon was the one that set up the recorded conference call where Ferry read those remarks.

It wasn't really a PR move at all. Gearon always wanted Ferry gone. When the new ownership group kept Gearon on board, it was pretty much guaranteed that Ferry would get the boot.

Not only did Gearon want Ferry gone, a lot of people say he wanted Ferry's job, which he'll never get. It was a slimy, piece of shite move and he's being rewarded for it by being retained.

So, in short, a bunch of old millionaires acting like petty counts and potentially costing a promising Atlanta team a run of success?

Sounds like they must live in Alpharetta

Had nothing to do with it. Gearon had a hard-on for
Ferry and just this incident as an excuse and also agreed to the buyout of his contract.

Because the Hawks enjoy making the playoffs every year but never winning a championship. No reason not to keep Ferry. We have no balls.
