but those venues dont try to host events in the way they do in ATL with a dome. covered stadium opens up far more opportunities

This. This stadium is only kind of about the falcons and has a lot to do with ATL wanting the national title, final 4, super bowl, etc

And a World Cup.

Not to mention that Blank wants to bring an MLS team here.

Yerp.Think of it more as building a really gaudy addition to the GWCC and less as building the Falcons a new stadium.

ETA: If it helps, reimagine all those design images as saying #WWJD instead of #Rise Up and fill the seats with a bunch of middle class white kids singing the latest Chris Tomlin song in tearful unison and put a hip looking college guy on a stage over the Falcons logo talking about how his life and Facebook profile pic changed when he fed Muanlolo that last bowl of soup before he died of Aids during that Africe mission he did for a week one summer a few years ago.

Not really...it's NOT gonna be under the controll of the GWCC
stadium authority...the Ga Dome was 100% financed by the state...it was a good deal short term at the time (Rankin Smith & sons weren't on the most solid financial ground) but long term not so much.

Obviously it won't belong to the GWCC, but that's its function. It's a multimodal facility meant to attract conventions, large scale events, and the like.

I was actually laughing loudly here. Friggin nailed it. Thursday mornings we'd have some christian rock band come in and kids would stand up, raise their hands, and cry. My teachers were furious that some of us weren't' standing and were down right irate when they'd see me with my WTF look

I did the whole Christian school, shop at the Christian store, be active in the mega youth group, go on two or three "mission trips" (or, "week long voluntourism vacation to Tampa, the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, etc.) a year. And then I went on an actual two month medical mission to some no-name village in the mountains of Peru and realized just what self-aggrandizing shite it all is. But, hey, at least the sorostitute you take home to mom can fall back on that selfless trip she made to build a church in Cancun as a sign that she really isn't the soulless skank we're led to believe she is.

Preach, brother. frickin nailed it. I used to sit around and think I was an a-hole for not buying into the hooplah until I realized everyone was arse holes but they were too candy assed to admit their souls were dog shite.

Gah, I am not gonna rant, I am not gonna rant, I am not gonna rant...

Atlanta architecture is about as ugly as it gets but, this thing looks like a transformer on crack.

I didn't think you could make an uglier arena than the old Omini center but a dolt threw one out.

Rise up my arse!

Yep. Making the same mistake Turner did. Leaving the Falcons stadium downtown is so dumb... Put that shite on the north side of town far far far away from public transportation.

Meh. Some of us choose to take transportation to games because we plan to drink and don't want to drive or pay for a shitty Atlanta taxi.

There's nothing wrong with public transportation.
