well yeah of course all that is true, or was true at the time.

But this isn't 5 years ago, it's now, and we know what mcgarity is instead of wondering what he could be. And he stinks.

To be fair we said similar thing about mcgarity coming from a long tutelage under probably the most successful AD in modern sports and a history as player and coach at UGA

That is to say that the only thing that is for certain when hiring an AD is that it's a total coin flip as to how they'll perform

Well we need to keep flipping the damn coin.

Hate the Georgia way, horrible pr, terrible production outside of the secondary sports, and bumbling mismanagement. Should have 1 maybe 2 nc given Florida and Bamas success. BBALL has sucked since we mishandled harrick.

Time to get the best available candidate from a power school. Someone who is a lawyer.

Not disagreeing, just saying that college athletics is an amorphous blob of a monster that seems to evolve significantly every year. I love Frank and think Billy Payne could even be a great hire but don't let their performance in the AD role sour you on their reputations as great ambassadors of UGA and the football program. I think mcgarity is just easy to hate on because he spent so much time at Florida (and because he has been pretty mediocre thereafter) but he is also a letterman of UGA and could go down as being the guy that was in charge when we finally got an IPF and a championship winning coach

the second part is the only important one. We dont' have to guess about what mcgarity can do, we've seen many (if not most) of our programs stagnate or suck under his watch. And that's just the surface. Similar to firing richt...yeah we may flop or we may hit a grand slam, but at some point it's time to see what else is out there. It has nothing to do with his time at uf.

lol at anyone who thinks that's a mcgarity thing. 20 years from now I wonder if we'll look back and attribute anything to his credit that can't also (if not more directly) be attributed to morehead.

Just saying don't expect Frank Ros (who has never worked in an AD office before) to just waltz in and make everything perfect. God bless him if he does but don't hate te guy if he doesn't. Just hate Florida of all the schools for being te one place outside for Stanford that can not only manage to be good at everything, but to then pass us their #2 guy and have him totally tank here

God willing there will be a Behind the Hedges part II that gives us all the answers we want and more. If one thing is for certain, there are and have been competing parties within the UGA AD for some time and that's not healthy for a program this big. If anything needs to happen, it's to get everyone on the same page and f that means firing mcgarity then I'm all for it

Agreed... I'd be surprised/shocked if he were hired, but we could do a hella lot worse(see McEars). Ros has a great business background, was & is a great supporter of UGA Athletics & loves the school & program. Seems as if it's damn if you do & damn if you don't. You've gotta decide if you want a CEO/GM type of guy who can coordinate a program & delegate authority or a good ole boy Coach/rah rah guy who can smooze the boosters...Or a combo of both which Ros seems to be...

Like Crow said, you just keep going trying until you get it right. That's really all that can be done. I think Ros could be successful but then you look at Michigan pre-Harbaugh and at Texas and realize just how bad guys with corporate CEO backgrounds can frick up a whole department. Granted, I like to think Ros is in touch enough with UGA to know what fans want and what the program needs to not go crazy with branding and licensing but you never really know until he gets in there.

Oh that's a good point. I like blowing shite up, fire, and then drinking to the point that it all becomes pretty dangerous for everyone involved.

I recall reading this "Case for firing McGarity" after the Richt firing. LINK

Does a pretty good job of pointing out the reasons why it could easily be justified.

Or, you could say that McGarity is struggling with righting the problems he inherited from the former AD.
