Programs are paying millions of dollars in salaries and fan bases are expecting results. Since every program can't win every division, there's going to be a carousel of hires and fires, especially in the SEC. I don't know what the result will be of all of this, but I don't think it'll be good for the sport.
The new playoff format is going to make it tough for coaches at good-but-not-great programs.

Herman can make nearly as much money in Houston and be a God and could get to a playoff game easier there than at LSU. Frankly...

Is LSU still having serious budget problems? That could limit their ability to do much.

Yeah, there was talk in the LA legislature over the summer that they might not have the money to be able to compete all of the state-sponsored athletic teams, due to budget crisis. Allegedly, that's another reason they didn't pull the trigger on canning Miles last year.
His buyout is reportedly down to ONLY $10m, from $16m, last November. Plus staff buyouts.
