No, I'm pretty sure Obama led in the polls most of the time with Romney. Now, at the end, it appeared as if Romney might actually have a chance.

Another hilarious angle on all of this phony polling nonsense.....is that all the media fear-mongering and comparing him to hitler, and the george soros thugs beating up Trump supporters, etc has made people less apt to advertise their support for Trump.

I tend to agree. And, I also agree that they have been wrong before.
This time, though, I think they are right. The Dems have the momentum and Trump is just too polarizing. The Dems put the first black man in the White House and rode that as far as they could. Now, they are going after the first woman in the White House. Next? They will go for the first Hispanic.
If somebody doesn't get a viable candidate soon, we will become a total socialist state. The fact that Bernie Sanders gave Hillery a run for her money tells us that is no longer out of the question. Yhe Liberals are stacking the Supreme Court, and that is where the real power is. It will only get worse.

Because of Trump, the records for primary voter turnout have been shattered. Exploded. He's moved the needle. Framed the debate. And started a nationalist revolution. Something the repubs can't and couldn't do if their evil lives depended on it. (not that they even want to, obviously)

Here is the aggregate of all the major polls during the GOP Primary. Trump never trailed from July 2015 until he clinched it.

Here is the aggregate of all the major polls from the 2012 Presidential Election. Obama led every day's aggregate from November of 2011 until November of 2012 except for two days.
2012 Romney vs. Obama
Polling isn't perfect, but it is fairly accurate, especially in national elections.
If your point is that talking heads on TV are full of shite then I'm with you, most never predicted Trump would win, but the polls have been pretty spot on this year, and in 2012, 2008, 2004, etc.
