It's probable, but not a done deal till the President signs off on the hire. Joey Freshwater doesn't have an offer yet.

Well, he was a failure at UT, USC, and Oakland but was primarily given those jobs just based on who his daddy is.

This one is a wee bit different....he's proven to be a competent OC at the most elite school in america and has served under the best coach of all time. I can see why a lower tier school like Houston would give him a chance.

Can he win without a talent advantage and air cover from an NFL caliber D?? We shall see.

If he recruits well, he'll have a talent advantage in the AAC

Good hire for them if it actually happens. Kiffin has always been a good OC and I'm thinking he's learned a lot from Saban about what it takes to be a good HC.

"Lower tier". That's rich. This lower tier school went 9-3 and beat Oklahoma and Louisville.

One year does not make them an upper tier school.

He has left very badly from every job he has had.

His plan is to use Houston as a stepping stone best case.

They are idiots if they hire him and so is LSU.

Because he's a good coach. I bet, and probably Houston thinks this as well, that he just wasn't ready for his previous jobs. Coaches learn a lot from failure. I expect him to do well at Houston.

And Houston knows they are a stepping stone job. They can either do this and take a shot at greatness for a few years or hire some middle of the road guy who would stay awhile. Some programs are meant to be stepping stone jobs, and they can get good up and coming coaches as a result if they embrace it.

Why did Lane Kiffin land the USC job despite his paltry head-coaching experience? Charles Barkley has an idea that's as plausible as any out there, telling viewers at halftime of the Bulls-Celtics game on TNT, "Lane Kiffin has got to have pictures of somebody having sex with a monkey."

This. LSU was a stepping stone job for Saban and they won a NC as a result.

LSU is a destination job in college football unless the coach takes off for the NFL. Coaches wouldn't leave LSU voluntarily for another college job

I'll see your second year and raise you a 406-340 all time record.

Also:

In the AAC
Averaged 8 wins the last ten years
Has finished twice in the top 25 the last 25 years
Has finished in the top 5 all of 5 times in their history
Every coach worth a shite has left for better jobs

But hey, if you think they're an upper tier job like UT and USC you can just keep on believing that.
