How differently would Kirby have handled the situation with them getting suspended by the NCAA? Would he have made the NCAA prove their case or just admit it from the get go like Richt? No other schools were punished for these things and you know it goes on else where. Other players were named by that guy who ratted on Gurley, and weren't some other players accused of selling jersey's also (around the time of AJG)?

If a situation happens in the future, I think Kirby will try and make the NCAA prove their case rather than suspending the players ahead of time. This is something to consider since Richt is the nicest/greatest coach ever and it happened 2 times under his watch. We all know Kirby isn't cut from the same cloth, so...

It's out of Kirbys hands in all honesty. He may voice displeasure in benching a player like that but ultimately it's up to compliance and the AD how to handle those situations

Hopefully this "cooperating with the NCAA" bullshite will be over. All cooperating did was get players suspended longer than teams that wouldn't.

It's not up to Kirby at all, Compliance department are the first people notified something is going on (usually), after that they take it to Mcgarity, then notify the coach of the player accused and talk to the player in question. Our compliance department won't change their integrity just bc a new head football coach is in town.

As others have said, Kirby won't be the decision maker on those types of issues. And he shouldn't be.

I know football is king, especially on tSEC Rant and other forums, but I do believe UGA is bigger than its football team and should always remain that way.

If it's out of the HC's hands, and we know it is, then everything that's happened to this point is on McGarity. He's put the football team at a competitive disadvantage in the interest of minimizing damage to the swim team, etc.

So you guys are saying that UGA will continue to rat our players without it being proven by the NCAA? Kirby will not fight to make the NCAA prove their case? If it happens, I just don't see Kirby letting it go down the same way.

You're overestimating the power Kirby has when it comes to these issues. The Compliance department is there to protect the University and they're not going to put the University's name and reputation at risk so a player won't be suspended. I can also assure you that our compliance department would not have acted as quickly to report what they did to the NCAA as well as suspend Gurley if they weren't 100% sure Gurley had taken money for those autographs. There are details to the case not known to the public that were very incriminating.

Both admitted to it.

Plus there was pics/ video of TG3.

not much could be done, they hoped admission and compliance would shorten the penalty, it did not of course.

it's a very slippery slope. The hope is that by being forthright you will catch some slack by teh NCAA, which we probably haven't.

However, if there's one thing the NCAA hates worse than rule breaking, it's being lied to. Dez Bryant was a potential heisman candidate in 09 but had to miss the season because he lied about simply having lunch with deion sanders. Teams like auburn and aTm were really playing with fire by fighting tooth and nail to lie and cover things up, but hey it worked. Thing is though that if something were to happen and they slipped up and got caught, they'd be in big big trouble.

Say what you want about the coach, but his level of power and ability to rally support within the power structure can certainly have an affect on this bullshite. Same for targeting of players by UNiveristy and local police. It's all about power and how you use it to influence. The AD is only as strong as the boosters allow him to be at the end of the day...

Imagine that....CUM not doing crap to a player for driving with suspended license. He was probably texting when he lost control too. I'm guessing he would be out the bowl game at UGA.

quote:

Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott was involved in a minor car crash Sunday before he left with the team for the BattleFrog Fiesta Bowl, according to Columbus police.

Elliott was cited for driving under suspension, driving without a license and failure to control his car
after he was involved in a crash at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Columbus, Ohio.

Police said Elliott told them he hit a puddle and slid before colliding with another vehicle that was carrying two people. One of those people suffered a minor injury.

Elliott was not injured.

No. 7 Ohio State plays No. 8 Notre Dame on Friday in the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona. An Ohio State spokesman told ESPN that there is no change to Elliott's status for the game.

Maybe Kirby will have more lenient team rules than we had under CMR, that being said I maintain that any issues brought up to the compliance department that are in violation with NCAA rules will be handled the same way as they have been.

It's a wise move to suspend the player. It saves your program from having to strip wins or face bigger punishments. Also the NCAA realistically doesn't have to prove shite. This is their convoluted world of college football.
