Realistic coaches besides those two? Mullen and Bobo.

Uhhh....no. These guys (Patterson and Briles) are to TCU and Baylor what Mark Richt was to us. They won't leave until they're MADE to leave. It's not as though either of them is trying to use their current gig to step up to something better. Better gigs have come and gone while both of them have stayed put. Patterson has been at TCU for 17 years. If he had wanted to move on to an "elite" job, he's had numerous chances.

And God knows, UGA isn't going to come off the hip to bring either of them (or Jimbo, or Dabo) here.

And there we have it. We fired Richt to hire an assistant or Dan Mullen.

Please tell me you didn't realistically think we were going to pry someone like Patterson or Swinney from their current roles.

This was always going to be what the coaching search looked like. This is the situation that everyone preferred over Richt. Soak it up.

That said, Smart would be a damn good option. If that falls through, God help us.

You think Texas didn't at least kick the tires on Patterson? If he wouldn't go to Texas, he wouldn't leave for Georgia. TCU is in a big boy conference with big boy boosters and big boy money in a great recruiting state. That's a better job than you'd think.

Seriously? I know we are enveloped in UGA news all the time and love our team, but why would either of those guys want to come here? They are firmly entrenched at top 10 schools with staffs they are comfortable with, making an assload of money.

I said it before Richt was let go, but our search would always be focused on up and coming guys who we could affordably hire. You can argue all day about what our AD should and should not do, but breaking the bank to hire a star away from their current gig was never a possibility. The only way that we might have been able to pull that off was if one of our alums was a HC somewhere and wanted to come back home, but there are no coaches out there that fit the criteria.

It's funny to me that people are surprised that we are sorting through the discount bin looking for our next coach.

I didn't say we could, I said we should try. Read carefully. You don't fire a HC with a 73% winning % to hire a coordinator. Who was the last coordinator to take a major gig with championship expectations who lived up to them? UGA is sitting pretty in the catbird seat in that we have the best gig on the market by far this season and it's not even close. The mentality that we can't pull a proven HC with a championship background is exactly what is wrong with UGA. If we are what we tell our rivals we are then we offer top 5 money and grab the most proven guy who is looking for a change. Who that is I have no idea but if we fired Richt for Mullen or an assistant then we arent even a top 5 gig in the SEC much less nationally.

We could be one of those teams that go out and offer 4 or 5 guys and get rejected and have it all over the media like we have seen other schools do or we could hire the guy we want that we feel like will take the offer.

I'll take option number 2. Because it makes you look like a giant desperate bridesmaid when 4 or 5 coaches tell you to frick off.

I get what you're going, but what you're saying is wrong with UGA is the administration. And that same administration is the one doing the hiring. So it doesn't take much time to figure out that firing Richt wouldn't solve our problems.

Ironically, this coaching search might be a blessing in disguise, since everyone can see what a greaseball ADGM is.

Has Saban ever even allowed Kirby Smart to do an interview?

What if he has a MIke Tyson voice or something?

So you aim low because of fear of rejection? That's what gets fat chicks laid. Most of these things aren't public anyway. The search firm reaches out to agents or vice versa and guages interest. I will guarantee there is a proven coach out there who is chomping at the bit. New facilities, more talent with 100 miles than 99% of CFB programs, fanbase, money, awesome town, and on and on.

Gentlemen, firing Richt was a bold move. Let's just hope the hire is equally as bold. That's all I am saying. Go Dawgs!!!
