To Chrissy... From a recent Tech Grad

First of all, congratulations to all on getting out - I hope the majority of you have jobs lined up or are pursuing grad school this fall.
Now, I just wanted to know how many other gatech redditors besides myself who are still unemployed in their respective major field after 1 or more years post tech. Have you given up and decided to pursue other career fields or are you still determined to continue and muscle through?
A bit of my background: I graduated in Spring 2012 (BSAE) with a 2.6+ GPA, no internships or coops (as no company would give me a chance during my 5 years), with 1 year of part time work in our design lab. I knew full well the day I graduated that I was at a severe disadvantage despite the Gatech name on my degree, yet I still wanted to find work in the AE industry. I took the FE exam the following OCT, passed and received EIT status by JAN2013, and yet as of now, I have only landed 2 in-person interviews (ME-industry related) and 2 phone interviews (AE related), both of which fell through due to my lack of experience and low GPA. I've only listed my GPA a handful of times in over 300+ applications. I haven't received a call back from anyone since February, and I've just given up and relegated myself back to taking classes as a post-bacc student here in my local Uni, hopefully starting this summer, with the intention of raising my GPA and gaining acceptance into a M.Engr. program down the road.
Idk, but I hoped that having an AE degree from Gatech would at least give me a few more opportunities at interviews, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Honestly, had I known that along with a multitude of other things, I would have stayed home and attended a local uni for much cheaper than paying out-of-state tuition for 5 years at Gatech when I have nothing to show for it. Needless to say, I'm pretty bummed.
Anyone here can relate? Or is my luck just that shitty lol.

GT BBacks should all have listened to GT savior/renowned wife beater Jonathan Dwyer, who said he had to learn how to play RB again after playing his college career in Johnson's offense.

Translation: I half-assed it.

Just the whiney tone of the prose tells me this guy is a bitch. He sounds like one of those students who walks in on the day of the final looking like shite because she "stayed up all night" writing an essay that she knew about for six weeks. Sally and Johnny Snowflake.

Crissy sent this over for you ...

quote:

From a former UGA player whose son play's for Tech

"Will committed Early , because he believes what GT " sells " Use football to get a World Class education , don't let football use you " . Bottom line , Will can go to the NFL as easy at GT as any other college . NFL scouts are pretty good . They dont give a crap about bull**** star ratings in highschool . If he s one of the 97 percent that do not go " Pro" , he will have a degree than No one can question . Not rec sports mgt , communication or early childhood development ... Like GT or hate GT ( I used to HATE GT ) you have to respect that GT has REAL Student Athletes . We and I am using the word We , because no way in hell was one of my Sons going to be a Jacket ... Were Sold when we met the players and coaches . Facilities , everyone has them ... Weights are weights etc ... I believe there are enough players out there that want a World class education and get to play at the Highest level . GT has a Class coaching staff . Coach Johnson is a straight shooter . I love his level of commitment . People who want change , have their head in 1980 ' sand . The Majority of today's players are dumb as bricks ... Public education sucks ... Our recruiting staff just got increased to 4 . Factories have 17 plus . Can GT win the ACC , I believe so , or we would not be here . We believe it's the best of both worlds . That coming from a UGA letterman , who wants both his Son's to have a Great future . So if you want to replace a man of character and a great coach , your not in my corner . I say give the Man what he wants and needs to get to the next level . $ $ $. It takes it to fund recruiting to find 85 that give a crap about education .
