Hopefully both teams make it to 12-0 going into Atlanta. They just seem to be on a collision course for a possible Game of the Year candidate in the SEC Championship Game. The two defenses are at LEAST top 5 in the nation. Both teams have potent ground attacks. Saban vs Smart. I haven't been this excited for an SEC game since the Game of the Century in 2011. The 2013 Iron Bowl came close, but Auburn hadn't been dominating everyone that year. What made 2011 special was no one could hold up to Bama and LSU. They both decimated a top 10 Arky team, and LSU had blown out Oregon and West Virginia, and IIRC they both won their conferences.

This season it's almost the same except Bama and UGA both have one close game (UGA over ND by 1 and Bama over A&M by 8). Other than that we've been rolling over folks.

I think both teams are going to do everything they can to stop the run. It may very well come down to who of Hurts and Fromm can make the plays to win the game. When it comes to winning with their arm, I'd take Fromm over Jalen, unfortunately. However, Smart did have trouble with QBs like Hurts when he was our DC. I'm sure Kirby and Mel Tucker will be smart enough to spy Jalen and make sure scramble lanes don't open up.

I'm really pulling for the 12-0 vs 12-0 showdown. It's shaping up to be one hell of a game.

It will be a great game. Although we have really stuffed mobile QBs this year. We contained Wimbush and Fitzgerald. Hurts is a better runnwe than them though. But I would take their passing abilities over Hurts. Hurts however is great at not turning the ball over. It will be a hell of a game.

One loss Notre Dame is guaranteed in, no question

One loss ACC champ gets in, especially Miami whose only loss is Notre Dame or Clemson, defending champ

Pen State / Ohio State or even Michigan State with only one loss, to Notre Dame - or an undefeated Wisconsin

PAC 12 is probably fricked in this situation, but a one loss Washington would be ahead of a one loss non SEC champion

But zero percent chance a one loss Notre Dame gets left out

If Georgia and Bama are both undefeated heading into the SECCG, I don't see how either of them are left out of the playoff. SEC has a great chance of getting two teams this year.

Big12 doesn't deserve a slot unless TCU runs the table but they've got some tough games coming up.

Clemson could easily be left out and Miami would have to beat ND to get in, imo. If they don't, and ND wins out, ND gets the nod.

Pac12 kind of screwed themselves with WashSt and Wash both losing to scrub teams. I suppose the conf champ may have 1 loss which may be enough to get them in but how do you pass on 1-loss ND, Georgia, Bama, PSU, tOSU, or Clemson if that's the way it goes? Pac12 blows and neither Wash or WashST have played anyone worth a shite.

I think we'll see:
Georgia
PSU
ND
Bama

The problem with 2 SEC teams (presumably us and Bama) getting in is that were that to happen, then the SECCG didn't mean a damned thing. It is, by definition a de facto quarterfinal match-up. The Big XII CG is pointless since everyone in the league plays a round robin schedule. The earlier head-to-head match up between schools practically doesn't count.

This is the very reason I don't want the field to be expanded to 8+

I like your optimism but I'm pretty sure the committee will avoid picking 2 teams from the same conference if at all possible. There are 5 major conferences and then ND as an independent so with ND as a serious contender this season it means the best case is 2 teams are going to be left out. Plus the Big 12 has a conference championship game now so they have a stronger case than they have had previously. The whole thing has potential for getting very ugly even without considering 2 teams from the same conference.

Seriously, I think ND would have to have another loss and 2 of the conference champions would have to have 2 losses for 2 teams to be picked from the SEC. My guess is:
SEC: Bama or Georgia
Big 10: Penn St. or Ohio St.
Big 12: TCU or Oklahoma
ACC: Clemson or Miami or ND if they win out

And yea, the PAC 12 is going to be pissed if their champion finishes with 1 loss.

Bottom line: To get in the playoffs, we better beat Bama in the SECCG.

I remember watching y'alls spring game and wondering why he wasn't starting. He's going to be a good one.

I think the best case scenario for two SEC teams getting in would be:

Penn State goes unbeaten, giving tOSU their second loss and putting PSU in the playoffs. Bama wins the SECCG (purely talking about best way Bama and UGA both get in, UGA's ND win helps them, our schedule isn't very impressive this year) at 13-0 they're in.

Now, the Big XII and Pac-12 would have to eat themselves alive, each champion finishing with 2 losses. Miami would have lost to Notre Dame and beaten Clemson in this scenario. So there are two spots left and these are the candidates:

1 loss SEC East Champion Georgia who defeated:
1 loss Notre Dame who defeated:
1 loss ACC Champion Miami
2 loss Pac-12 Champion
2 loss Big XII Champion

With two spots left to be determined we'd really be finding out what the committee favors. If Georgia and ND get in then THREE of 5 P5 Conference Champions were left out. If Miami gets in and ND doesn't, then the head to head didn't matter as much as the conference championship. If either 2 loss champ gets in then losing 2 games wasn't a big deal because they won their conference.

If that scenario played out it would create a lot of debate over the selection process. I for one don't care if Georgia isn't a champion, right now I'd say they're one of the four best teams so if we were choosing today I'd say put them in.
