More students live on/around campus at Tech. The part of downtown that GSU is in is pretty much dead at night.

Yep. People have their backpacks stolen or something every once in a while, but I never hear about the kind of violent shite that seems to happen around Tech on a weekly basis.

They are going off of activities that have happened at the school it seems and not necessarily where that school is located. See: Duke.

I may be wrong, but I think State is predominately a commuter school. They are smart enough to get the hell out of Atlanta when the sun goes down.

Everyone I know that went to Tech had their shite stolen/broken into multiple times.
Downtown Atlanta has forever sucked, and I don't understand it. You go almost anywhere else and their downtown area will have nice shops/restaurants/bars. Other than a few tourist traps and sporting events, downtown Atlanta is terrible and kind of scary. What is the disconnect in the ATL?

MIT on this list?? Odd..wouldn't have thought of that one as a top 15.
