The one game last year where I feel like Richt had a direct impact on the loss. I know some people defend the squib kick but I will never understand not kicking it deep with that much time left on the clock.

Wasn't just Richt. Chubb and Michel had two horrible fumbles that really sealed the deal. And Tech's defense played lights out.

When I think of that loss, the first thing that comes to my mind are those two fumbles. On the one. By our best offensive players. Dang.

Yeah the fumbles were all sorts of awful but still somehow had a chance to put the game away and gave them insanely good field position with no time on the clock. Easily one of Richts biggest in game blunders that I can recall. I can't even describe how much I hate the squib kick for any situation much less that situation. Kick it deep and play kick coverage instead of basically landing them at the 40. Hell, we would have been better off kickign it out of bounds.

Fumbles
Mason's INT
Richt

I'm not saying that's the correct order but that's what comes to mind when I think about the loss.

The fumbles were terrible, but we still had a chance to win at the end in spite of those. Richts decision to squib kick ultimately cost us that game. And Masons int might've been his worst throw of the year.

I think Richt has earned a pass on this given our record against Tech since he came on board. Just sayin'.

Let it go.

I'm not sure why anyone woudl want to bring up or dwell on a loss, especially one like that, especially to that team.

Some people must be masochists I guess?

My theory is that some fans have built up resentment toward Richt for not winning the big one, and relish the chance to shite on him where there is an obvious time for it (ex. the squib).

It's not so much about the squib, but moreso about the fact that our attempts at meaningful postseason play can best be described as dryhumping for the most part.

A lot of mistakes were made and they all added up to a loss in that game. No singular thing caused the loss or even was the primary reason for the loss. Time to move on.

Agreed.... Team loss, can't just call out one play or decision, mistakes magnified every play in the 4th qtr/OT...

Heres my take on this. Ga. Tick had a good regular season capped off by beating UGA. They capitalized on a year when the ACC teams that normally beat them were down. They still lost to a couple they shouldn't have. It took uncharacteristically crappy play by UGA and some miracles on their part just to stay in the game that they eventually won in overtime.

I realize Im a little off topic here as the discussion was about UGA's mistakes but when I hear talk of this game and see the formally in hiding Tick fans coming out of the woodwork its just hilarious. They are one good quarterback hit away from a losing season especially with their schedule next year.

Don't worry, things will be set right next season and we will enjoy another 5 to 7 year streak.

Even with all the bad plays from the players, we STILL had the game won before that squib kick. We overcame all those fumbles and blunders and should of won the game, but we couldn't overcome the squib.

This has been covered. Tech had a good season last year. We'll win the next four or five then lose to them again. They'll all buy t-shirts to remember it by and then they'll lose the next six before it happens again.

There is nothing new under the sun.

That and the interception by Mason at the end. 4 all year and one right there. No doubt the squib kick was not a good decision, but the fumbles and interceptions caused more pain IMO. TD on those two fumbles and the squib would never had happened. Without the interception, I think we score and win the game as well....but, alas...all those happened and GT won.

They played a good game, though. I'll give them credit.

And the squib would have never happened without the fumbles. See how that works?
