Ironic that a manly southern rebel is whining about the lyrics.

I don't see it as whining as much as pointing out that the lyrics suck and that's part of why he doesn't like the music?

They "suck" because they offend insecure southern white males.

Some would say that. Others like me would say they suck because I don't think they make good music.

Everyone has specific tastes of musical preferences. So you don't like dbt. Oh well. Not a big deal. My wife doesn't like them either, but not because she is offended by words "Jefferson" style.

I say it’s interesting how my opinion on that topic lives permanently inside your brain. And that it never could have taken root in there and survived so long if there wasn’t some Truth to it.

I don't understand how the backlash to this latest dbt record would be complicated to understand.

Most people turn on a rock n roll song just looking for an escape and a good beat right?. They don’t turn one on looking to get lectured to. Or to be force-fed social issues that’ve been boiled down into cringe-worthy little platitudes. I mean, I know a lot of really popular famous songs have political messages etc, but it's usually subtle enough or good enough to somehow not derail the whole effort.

For you music "afficiandos" that are too "refined" in your musical taste to aknowlege bro country and that criticize it for "pandering".... you need to understand that this dbt band does the exact same thing. The entire record is basically a rinse and repeat formula of self-aggrandizing moral indignation and virtue signaling. But instead of the beer and trucks and tanned blondes that the bros use.... they plug in social justice warrior topics and cliches ripped straight from HuffPo headlines instead.

Conclusion: dbt is basically just "critically acclaimed" bro country. But without one one thousandnth of the popularity or song/record sales. Bro country wins. Love live The Line!!

Big difference. Bro country singers pander to their core audience. Dbt is doing the opposite as they always have. Not sure how you weren't offended by their earlier works that also dealt with how awful southerners like you are.

Not even close to being true tarzan.

DBT has always pandered to the "Southern thing" and been formulaic as frick. They got the most mileage from their 'the-South-has-warts-but-we-won't-apologize' schtick phase but now they've jumped the shark by throwing the whole region under the bus and becoming an "American Band" that panders to NPR and anderson cooper so they can make meta-mucil money.

It's pathetic.

DBT = Drive By Truckers

Now this all makes sense.

I was never a big fan. But I have nothing against them.

The people I know that love them are the "Southern when it's convenient for me" types.

They used to write songs about history, now they write about current events. They called the shite heads out from history, now they call out the shite heads from today.

Since you weren't part of that history, you weren't offended by it. Only reason a person would be offended today would be if they were guilty of being the specific type of southerner they are trashing. You fit in that category.

That’s exactly the stupidity they’re pandering to, right there……

Let’s dissect this process:

-paint a broad brush image of meanie-weanie backwards boogie-men hiding everywhere, check
-demonize and blame them for everything. check
-while ignoring the ones committing actual crimes shown nightly on your local news channel. check
-then, have audacity afterwards to virtue-signal to world your condemnation of the invisible yeti’s and bigfoots you blame instead
-and flex and pose as righteous for NPR
-then when check arrives, toast earnings with glasses of meta-mucil

Tarzan, YOu are part of a modern day simpleton cult. And I am trying to help you. NOt because I care about you. But because I care about the future of humanity.

Back to Georgia Florida line news........

What does everyone think about the lyrics teaser The Line issued for their new single coming out Christmas day? Titled "Sweater Weather".

(for those of you not on the galfLine fan club mailing list here they are)

When the sun don't shine
I'll be better when the sun don't shine
I like it better when the sun don't shine

When it's cold outside
I grab a sweater when it's cold outside
Get close together when it's cold outside
I get so happy when it's cold outside

Sounds like it may be another slow one like H.O.L.Y.

I like it better when the sun don't shine
And I don't have to watch you say goodbye
I can stand behind the clouds and hide
A little rain to protect my pride
I like it better when the sun don't shine

Getting better..

We could probably come up with some good lyrics for a GaFlL song.

I think Bent Bill Hat is a good title

I'm not sure I really agree with that. I think Southern Rock Opera was more about how history's perceived Southern shitheads (George Wallace and Ronnie Van Zandt) were actually better people than the national public thought.

Jefferson was right in that DBT has a different sound than just about anyone out there and I dig it. I do think the newest album does sound great but they made it too political for sure.

Lynyrd Skynyrd and Allman Brothers Band were great southern rock bands that were certainly liberal in their political views, but the difference is they didnt focus on that in their lyrics... they just wrote about life in the south.
