Can't lie, I turn it up when that song comes on. A lot of their songs are straight pandering though. This one probably is too, but I like it.

Now that I've actually clicked the OP link, I think I know where JD is coming from. Or not.

The song is a double ripoff from Tom Petty (obvious) and T Bone Burnette (link)

Bo Burnhams "pandering" mock country song hits the nail pretty squarely on the head. Of course everyone is entitled to like whatever they want, music is subjective, but the same way you listen to what a "consensus" of what doctors, lawyers, teachers etc say, you should also take into consideration that most every musician thinks they suck and are just pandering. Most who perform art well can single out the posers. They seem to actually think they're gifted musicians, I think they even tried to talk shite about Tom petty lol

Why can't you just say you hate the song? or that you'd rather heat up a plate of dog shite in the microwave and eat it rather than listen to this song?

If you said it that way, I wouldn't care and it wouldn't bother me at all.

Anyway, I just plugged that song into SPotify to see how many times it's been listened to, and it's showing just under 63 MILLION times currently. Sixty. Three. MILLION. times. for one song. On one app.

Let me guess though, that makes you hate this song even worse now, right?

I knew there'd be some cringe worthy responses in this thread, but I never expected this level of obliviousness.

Holy shite.

Ok. I hate the song. Better?

Of the 63M listens.....62.9M are from females.

I don't like Pop Country. I don't like Rap Country.

I like the real musicians. You know Willie, Waylon, and the boys? If I had to pick a relatively new country musician it'd be Jamey Johnson.

This one always gets me in the feels.....

Georgia Florida Line is the Nickelback of Country Music.

I don't think I’ve ever even heard a NickleBack song. But, I have seen the memo going round constantly about how it's not cool to like them or the sounds they make.

Isn’t that kind of weird? I wonder if these people have heard their songs either or if they just bring them up in particular to signal to the "consensus" something about their own coolness levels. That sounds sad and pathetic though. So probably nothing to it. Just kidding. It’s 100% true. that’s exactly what it is. And all it is. nanny nanny boo boo....i'm down with what's cool, and yoouuu arrrre not nickleback face!. ha ha, what'd you say? Why yes, that is a Patagonia sticker on backj of the suv my dad bought me. Why do you ask? ANyway, late for poli sci class, gotta run. Remember nickleback face....i'm cool based on my taste in frivoulous meaningless shite, and you are uncool based on yours! Ha, ha!

I said your analogy was “oblivious”, imo. But, now you’re trying to make it sound like you’re some kind of registered authority for determining what good or bad music is. Please elaborate.

While we're waiting on that though, let's open up Spotify again and check out the number of listens to a random artist that probably has a pretty good "consensus" of artist and cool dude approval. Let's go with the brooding self-absorbed whiner Jason Isbell........Looks like 9 and a half MILLION listens for his most popular song! Not bad.

That's almost half of the number of listens as GAfloridaline's least listened to song has though.

NOt saying one is better than the other. Just confused on why tens and tens of millions of people's votes count less than a few "artists".

So, the audience of "bro" country is 99.999% female and only 0.001% actual bros. I'm confused.

I'm no registered authority, I said in my post music is subjective, it's whatever you like. If liking that style makes you happy and feel good then do it. Yes I am a musician.

"BRO" Country is the modern equivalent of late 80's Hair Metal. Both scenes were/all about partying, women, and having a good time. Both genres tried to feature men that were viewed as attractive to the female audience. (Brett Michaels/Luke Bryan) You write a couple of sappy ballads (i.e. EVERY ROSE HAS IT THORN/H.O.L.Y) and the ladies LOVE IT AND EAT UP, all the while they are objectified by the music itself. It's not a new formula in the music biz. No real self respecting male would admit to really liking bands like Warrant or Poison but they still went to the concerts to poach the girls just like you idiots that "like" this shite today.

Which was AWESOME btw. If you don't like Van Halen, Poison, GnR, etc you either were too young to appreciate it or don't have a soul.

How old were you in the late 80's?
