The Bulldogs will now spend the night before games on campus at the UGA Hotel and Conference Center at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education, just down the road from Sanford Stadium.

The time Georgia players had to spend on bus rides last season was an issue voiced to the media by defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt last November, but it was overshadowed by the message he was sending at the time about the urgency he felt for the need for an indoor practice facility to be built that the team could use.

Georgia also will fly out of Athens for road games this season instead of taking buses to Atlanta since runway work will be completed at Athens-Ben Epps Airport. Delta Airlines is making two Boeing 717s available for team use.

quote:

“We’re going to play 12 games and for those 12 games our kids are going to ride on a bus for 34 hours,” Pruitt said last season. “There’s 34 hours where you’re sitting on a bus. At the other places I’ve been at, the same schedule, you spend two hours on a bus. That’s a whole day and a half sitting on a bus.”

Seems to make sense. Didn't really bother me one way or the other but overall I like it.

This is awesome stuff. Spending 45 mins on a bus in the morning before a home game seems stupid. Not to mention they had to bus over the night before.

Deeeeeelta. We love to fly and it shows!!!

Does the team fly commercial or charter?

Does this mean they will also stay in Athens the Fri before away games and fly our new jets right into the damn stadium?

The UGA Hotel has 200 hotel rooms and its meeting rooms can accommodate the Bulldogs preparations leading up to games on Friday nights and Saturdays before leaving for games.

No. We will fly out Friday and do stadium walk-throughs still and stay at local hotels.

Means we will be home quicker after games as well though, which is a small, but morale victory.

Something similar to this.

Farkboard material.

Away routine is the same except for the direct flights out of Athens.

Home routine has changed in that they'll no longer be spending the night in Braselton the night before a home game before driving back to BM to get ready. Honestly, it's astounding that this change over to the Georgia Center didn't take place 10 years ago.

While I agree, the players used to find it as a tradition and even the pregame meal at the same family owned restaurant.

However, very glad they are staying there now. Just hope we control the fans and situation. A LOT of action will be going on just outside their rooms late at night and early in the morning

I imagine there will be a lot of protocols in place to keep things locked down tight. And the hotel is pretty removed form the downtown scene so I don't think there will be an issue on Friday nights. I'd imagine they'll be back across the street at BM by the time the heavy tailgating gets going the next morning.

Yup... Flying to Jax, Knox.,Nashville etc... will take less time than the old bus trip to HJIA just to fly out. Assuming we'll fly into Opelika now. I think they used to just bus to AU cause by the time you got to ATL. you were already halfway there...

If I'm not mistaken, they have a big stop over in Newnan on the way. Possibly stay in Newnan or close by?

I don't think I'd change the routine considering our success at Auburn.

Only places I'd drive the team now are Tech and Clemson. Wouldn't even drive to Columbia.
