Part of the problem is Chaney, he is not capable of developing a QB.

Eason should be working with the practice squad and holding a clip board on Sat. With Lambert as our Sr QB this isn't an option.

but I've seen nothing out of Eason that makes me believe he should even be mentioned alongside Stafford.

My only issue with Eason is his touch. I think he needs to throw a more catchable ball at times. His receivers have not helped him, but three tall receivers/TEs recruited by Smart dropped key passes today. The Oline did fine today.... he'll, they did above average today.
A lot of the drops have been rocket shots. Some of them are wobbly rocket shots. Hopefully, someone can develop him as he has the tools.

Far fewer than those thrown behind receivers or to the wrong shoulder, or thrown too short or too long.
I honestly believe Eason would be much better rolling out or throwing from the shotgun and moving around. He just is not a pro style pocket passer.

Are you really surprised he sucked today? We've got a 5* qb who is really good at handing the ball off...or at least that's what his OC thinks of him.
He's either passing into bubble screens or throwing in high pressure 3rd and long situations. That's not how you use a 5* freshman with a cannon for an arm. He's a spread QB who thrives running tempo and developing a rhythm. Chaney has to get him going early in games, despite the protests of Chubb and Sony.
Point being, this offense has absolutely ZERO identity. They aren't really a ground and pound team thanks to the OLine and Chubb's inability to get it going through more than half the season (minus UNC game). They aren't a pass-heavy team thanks, again, to the OLine but also undersized receivers who can't create space.
The poor aim on his passes today can easily be chalked up to just not being in any sort of rhythm. The only big failure I'd put on Jacob's back today was that awful Hail Mary attempt....he threw that ball sky high like he was throwing pop-ups in baseball practice.

That missed FG was on a bad snap. The holder caught it high over his right shoulder and that threw the timing off.

What's scary next year is that there won't be a Chubb or a Michel to take the pressure off Eason. The line will presumably be worse and we'll have two true freshman playing, so pass protection will be even worse because RB's are expected to block in our offense.
I agree with everyone here that our passing game seems stressed because it's always a pressure-packed third down we expect Eason to hit. I can't remember the last time we called a play and our primary guy got wide open on a designed play. It seems like we're always expecting our guy to make a miraculous catch in man coverage. Everything we do seems labored and stressed, watch a team like Texas A&M and guys get wide open. Hell! Even Tech had a better pass game today with receivers getting wide open.

Just watched the game and overall Eason played decently. Ridley had a drop. Eason had a couple batted down which I don't understand from a 6'5" qb. Nauta caught one and then dropped it when he hit the ground. Maybe his injured elbow. Woerner and Ridley were too close on one throw. Somebody blew a route. The interception was thrown behind and high to Godwin. On the final drive if he hits Nauta in stride, GA is in field goal range. He was wide open but the throw was low and behind. I guess we'll see how he develops over the bowl practices and spring. Fromm may be the best thing to happen to him. Competition!!!!!!

Inexperience can't account for all of Eason's bad play. I think Fromm has a chance to be starter at some point next season.
