If these kids grew up in GA, then they probably only remember Coach Richt, and we have done pretty well since he has been here, other than a natty. I think this plays a big role into the recruits wanting to stay home. Richt has been here 13yrs, so an 18yr old signing would of been 5 when Richt got here, so now they get a chance to play for their childhood team and coach. Lets hope a lot of the future studs of GA watched uga football growing up.

UGA isn't the easiest school to gain admission to..I suspect some of these kids are admission risks and we know there are a few questionable characters out there as well...plus we recruit nationally for QBs and skill players..and who can argue that there was anybody in-state who could compete with Moreno (new jersey), Green (s carolina), Gurley/Marshall (n carolina), Stafford (texas) and Murray(florida)..

I would hope we could lock down linemen from this state, but i don't care where they get anybody else from..

Normal UGA Applicant: 3.9/ 6 AP Classes/ 29 ACT

Something tells me half our team comes nowhere close to these rough averages.

Well, that's an average. But UGA has pretty reachable minimums.

I think this year?

Oh yeah.

This is going to be one of those total and complete kick arse years in recruiting, imo.

This is your first mistake. A lot of these kids didn't grow up in Ga and if they did their parents more than likely did not so there is very little in the way of allegiance to UGA.

I figure maybe 1/3 of the Atlanta area recruits fall under this generalization. But, the majority of the recruits that come out of the state?

I just said a lot, not the majority. But I'd say more than 1/3 of Atlanta is not from Georgia.

Maybe so. Would like to see some actual "stats" on that. Would be interesting to see what % of the HS players in the Atlanta area are actually Ga born and bred.

Yeah thats crazy to think that most of the kids that play football in GA at the high school level, didnt grow up here or have any ties to GA. Even if they didnt grow up here in GA, just by living in GA (for highschool), they still have some ties to GA.

With this, you are implying a lot of stuff that just doesn't match what you later post. Also I can see how atl might influence kids from not wanting to go to Athens, jsut b/c of how close it is. A hr between cities doesn't give some of these kids enough space, and for some it doesnt matter (Mettenburger)

I doubt Richt has anymore of an influence on recruiting now than he has in the past. If uga wants to keep the best kids in state then all they need to do is win consistently and maybe win a confetence title as well. Become nationally relevant again, which I feel they can. Just my opinion.

Thats what I'm saying Sanford, since these kids can remember (around 5yrs old), Richt has been at uga. He won 2 SEC championships early on here, and has been pretty successful and put a lot of players in the pros (Stafford, AJ Green, Geno, etc). So growing up and seeing that your home team (uga) is winning and putting players in the 'league', then I see it helping with us with the top instate guys. Also, GT is no competition to us, especially when they run the triple option.

I know we got a lot of recruits out of state, but I just get tired of seeing these top guys leave UGA, talent wise, our state is right there at the top, and its a shame we cant keep some of the top ranked guys here. But I think that is where the class of '15 will change. The top ranked guy T Thompson, is all dawgs. The future is bright, thats for sure.

For some perspective, the office building I work in, ITP, about 100 people, I know of 4 that are from Georgia. I've worked there almost 6 years and know pretty much everyone there pretty well, so there might be a few other Georgia natives that I'm not aware of, but only 4 people are from Georgia that I know of.

Four. That includes myself.

I'd also say only about 20% are actually southern, from Alabama, SC, Tenn.

Another qualitative observation...

When I drive around Greenville, all I see are Clemson and Carolina stickers.

When I drive through Alabama, all I see are Tide and Tiger stickers.

When I drive through Atlanta, it looks like the damn SEC rant.

Another illustrative story-

In 2008, I had just started working there, and a vendor rep came in to educate some of the new people (myself included) on the crap they peddle to us. The lady goes around the room, asking where everyone is from, of course no one is from Georgia. She gets to me, I tell her Georgia. She says "But where are you from originally?" I say Georgia. Here. She looks at me sideways like a confused dog, and I say "I was born in Piedmont Hospital in 19XX" and the room erupts with laughter, not sure why it's funny, maybe because there seemed to be some tension in the room? Anyways, the lady says she has only lived in Georgia for 2 years, and I was the first person she's met that is actually from Georgia.

Exciting Times.
