You do realize that players transferred before the portal.

They just had to sit out a year unless it was a grad transfer.

If it is a 4 year player (and I think we are seeing more and more of those), then sitting out a year isn't the worst thing in the world for the athlete.
It only hurts the 3 and out guys.

I wonder if there will be any changes to the transfer portal and if the NCAA could manadate it. The transfer portal to me has the biggest hit especially in basketball. We have 3 straight seasons where our basketball team is essentially an entirely new squad. I don't know how the smaller football programs can stay relevant in the long term unless they have big financial backers.

right. Which is not what we have now. Previously if a freshman got to campus and was pissy he wasn't immediatley starting, sure he could leave but he'd be forced to sit a year and not actually play til he was a junior, so it woudl make him think long and hard if that was actually what he wanted to do.

Now he can simply put his hand out behind the scnes and say "I'm not happy, pay me a million and I'll come ot your school" and he's gone and playing immeidately somewhere else the next year. It's night and day different.
