Congrats!!!! Both of my kids are St Mary's babies...we traveled 9000 miles round trip so my Daughter could come into the world as close as possible to Sanford Stadium....a man has to have his priorities.....

Get some rest while you can....it is hard to come by for the next 30 years.....

Bingo... The 1st one is a life changer & others down the line just make it better. Procreating the species is what we're born to do. Luckily as sentient beings we can enjoy it & take pleasure & pride in each little moment or milestone conquered as the little bastards grow up...

A couple of things you need yesterday...

Boppy pillow and Diaper Genie. These are worth their weight in gold.

Also, make sure to turn their head while sleeping or they'll get a flat spot and have to wear a helmet...this happened to a friend of ours.

I blocked alot of that period out but will continue to try and dig deep to remember more pro tips.

Silk pillowcases too. As they move their head, hair will fall out and they will look funny..... so just buy some and put under their head in crib, swing, etc.

Second that....Boopy is the BOMB...

also if you ain't got 'em get these....

Swaddle Me

These things are a life saver...the people at St. Mary's can do this with a regular blanket but it is like folding a map or getting a tent back in the bag...unless you do it for 10 years every day you are gonna muck it up....and Babies loves these things.....they sleep like, well, like a baby!

I am 50 years old and I am like a school girl when I hear about a new baby! I think this is the biggest difference between me and my Dad's generation....I know my Dad swears he never changed a diaper....and I am a world class wiper of asses and changer of diapers....

Thats another nugget of advice...take an ACTIVE roll in that baby's first few years....you and your wife are gonna want to shoot one another a lot during the next 84 months.....your changing of diapers and holding the baby and giving her some serious time away from the kid will keep her from carrying out the desire to shoot you in the face...and she will find you more desirable than ever when you have spit up on you and you didn't fling him to the ground with disgust....

I was like a NASCAR pit crew at the changing table...and only got pissed on a couple of times after raising two boys.

The funny thing was I never was bothered by my own kids crap...no matter how nasty....but whenever we were babysitting somebody else's kid the thought of wiping their arse almost made me throw up.

Something else too is that durring this period of time treat your wife as if she is a pet mountain lion. Oh sure, you can feed and pet it....and she'll even be cuddly at times....but don't turn your back on her or make any sudden moves or she'll claw your eyes out.

There's a lot of hormonal stuff going on there that we can only try to understand.

Read Babywise and follow it

Also, remember that you can never screw up taking care of a child. You are the parents. Whatever you decide is the right thing. All this stuff will come natural.

Things I loved having:
Butt Paste
Aquafore
Sleep sacks (Pjs with open bottoms) - best invention ever
2nd changing table (packnplay) for other floors
Babywise book
Rock N Play
Bumbo
