I think he wants it all, but he puts his goals in perspective. He is focused on getting to Atlanta, then worry about the next step.

Most of you guys are too young to remember Bear Bryant. He would always say Alabama was playing to win the National Championship and if they did that, the conference would take care of itself. Dooley, like Richt would say "we want to win the SEC". You'll never achieve a goal you don't set.

Geez.

You act like winning a natinoal title isn't a goal. All the dooley/richts of the world are saying is you have to accomplish step 1 before you get to step 2 or 3. You have to win the SEC to win the natty.

Have you ever heard a coach say "it's our goal to beat ULM"? No, of course not. But that doesn't mean they aren't trying to do it.

You don't think the goal should be set at the highest level to establish the expectations. I do.

Richts goals are to arrive at Bible Study early and to get to the pool before it closes.

Every team in the top 40ish's goal is to win the national title. You don't have to come out and declare it to the media and put it on the cover of your media guide for it to be so. You don't have the slightest idea what the team talks about behind closed doors. I don't either. But these are professional coaches, just about every single one of which has been involved in a national title in their career. They want to win one, I assure you.

No, you can disagree and that's fine. I don't think anyone here worships Richt. He's a very good coach but you buy in to the party line that thinks Richt is an incompetent moron, which is incredibly inaccurate.

i don't care about Richts competency. I care if UGA wins a National Title. It's really that simple.

Go Frick yourself somewhere else, of course his goal is to win the national championship. But there is no way we get to think about that unless we win the SEC first. Also if we had won the SEC title game against Bama that would have been a bigger accomplishnent considering both teams would have destroyed the Catholics in the title game.

Dean Legge Article on Mark Richt

No, Dooley did more with less, Dooley had to clean up the Johnny Griffith mess also. People bash in Donnan and he was not a good coach but he left Richt a nice cupboard of talent to use (hence the 2002 SECC). In those days they played less games and less cupcake teams. Also UGA was not as powerful or wealthy then. I will still stand my ground that Dooley did more with less while Richt continues to do less with more. Want to silence the critics then stop shatting the bed and win the big games!

How long do you give Dooley before you stop saying he did more with less though? By year four he's got his own players.

Dooley won a share of the Natty in 1968 so four years and he's doing well!

Please,his teams in 66,68 and 2000 to '03...were all LOADED...with talent.

Dooley had a far easier path to an SECC...played perhaps the weakest SEC schudule year in and out.Had three gimmies every year (Ky,Ole Miss and Vandy)The other 2,AU and Forida were both pretty good still only had ONE SECC
between them up until 1983.

He also never had to play A SEC Championship game and you could actually tie for a title back then.

BTW CMR has more top 10 finishes and bowl wins in his 14 years compared to Dooley's 25.
