Pretty sure JacketFan once said he did not attend Ga Tech, so I'm not sure why he feels the need to defend their academics with such tenacity.

It's a top tier technical instituion. So yeah, it's a good school. Nobody's arguing otherwise.

No, did not attend - my father attended and played there (74-78). And I only did not attend because I had no interest in engineering and had a soccer scholly at another institution.

If my argument is coming across as being solely academic in nature, I apologize (and admit my posts have veered more into the "oh yeah! well my team ..." kind of stuff. Consider this, there are a handful of institutions like Tech - Cal Poly and MIT being the most recognized - and none of them have a FBS program. It IS a recruiting challenge, no matter how you look at it. There are alums who would like to see additions to the academic programs at Tech that would be more "football friendly", but choices for such a thing are very limited. I still don't know why there isn't a sports medicine and technology degree or some aspect of the MGMT program that focused on sports.

Again, the Tech administration pressed down hard on athletics after Flunkgate. Many of the players who made the teams under CGO and CCG would not be admitted under the current administration's watch.

Still talk to him occasionally, Lucius Sanford used to come by his house a lot & I got to know him too. Met Drew Hill, Eddie Lee Ivery, Reggie Wilkes etc. We were neighbors from '94 to '06...

Tell you what, come to my tailgate for this year's COFH and have a few dozen beers and some bourbon on me. We're all normal guys.

Why? What does it have to do with your alma mater?

Nothing. Doesn't negate the fact UGA is Tech's Daddy no matter how many terrorists y'all graduate.

Guess we will see, the home opener sold out in MINUTES. When's the last time your Alma Mater sold out a game without a lot of help from a visiting team namely the one you like to dawg( pun intended) a lot?

Renting a car is your best bet ... Any type of bus, shuttle, train, cab, van, subway to Athens GA prolly doesn't exist or not worth the trouble

There is a great airport (ATL - Athens) shuttle bus service, about $75 each way...I use it fairly regularly when I am in the states. It picks up right in front of baggage claim and drops off at several hotels in Athens....

It is also possible to fly to Athens from Nashville, TN, of all places. There is an airline called SeaPort airlines (I think it is an air alaska alliance member which would make it a Delta one also???) That has at least one flight a day in and out of Athens itself, and the price is less than $150 roundtrip to Nashvile, so fly into nashville, and catch a flight to the classic city!!!! All roads in the South lead to Athens....

Kind of stupid but it was the 2000 Outback Bowl that caught my attention, I was 10 and loved the heart and fight they showed to come back and win that game after falling behind 25-0. Just stuck with them after that given the barren landscape that is college football in the northeast.

That ain't stupid....that is as good a way as any to get religion.

One word of caution, however....if you have a significant other of the female persuasion in Boston and you think you may settle down and spend the rest of your life with her I would think long and hard about making a trip to Athens, Georgia on a football Saturday. You are still a very young man (23, 24?) and you will see things in Athens on a football Saturday that will haunt you until you reach room temperature, be it 150 years hence. There is simply no reason to torture yourself for a lifetime with the images that will impress themselves on a male mind of your age from a seemingly innocent trip to watch a sporting event IF you plan on making a Boston lady your mate. If you are not planning on doing so I still offer these words of caution because Athens women are like Crack...one sniff and you are addicted for life...trust me on this, there is nothing worse than having a physical need the likes of which Athens women will instill in a man and not having access to even hearing those sweet songs of the Athens Siren. You run the risk of forever tainting every woman you meet if you expose yourself to the Women of UGA....it has happened to many a strong willed young man before you and it will happen to many more yet to leave the confines of their fathers loins. There is only one other day that would be worse for Visiting than a fall football Saturday, and that is the first nice day of spring....no Man should ever run the risk of being on Milledge Avenue the first nice day of spring, even those of us fortunate enough to have caught our Mate on the fertile hunting ground that is the UGA campus, because their are things on Milledge Avenue around the first of April that would give a man 30 years in the grave wood that Norm Abrams couldn't scratch with his impressive arsenal of tools.....
