I don't melt and I despise those who do. I do, however, recognize why people melt, and I understand that all fan bases melt, not just ours. There's no sense in fighting it. It's here to stay. Embrace and/or accept it.

Melting, in my opinion, does not hurt our recruiting. It can make for a miserable experience as fans (whether you participate in the melt or not), but it doesn't negatively impact our team, staff, or recruits, because everybody in the industry understands it's the norm. It's not the UGA norm, it's the sports norm.

Much like 1 star ratings on Amazon. The best of products receive 1 star ratings, but an astute buyer knows how to overlook them.

One thing that intuitively makes sense to me, if a WR with 4.4 speed is matched up against a defender with 4.61 speed and the WR runs straight down the field, the DB is not going to be able to stay with him without interfering with the WR. I recognize that there are bump and run masters in the NFL but in college if you are hitting the receiver while the ball is in the air directed to said receiver, the DB is often going to get a interference call against him. And I will take that situation all day long.

Though the 40 measures acceleration in a straight line, it doesn't measure ones ability to change directions and accelerate. Throw in the ability to take the shortest path to the ball. Long arms help too.

Bottom line, if you are on the slower end of the spectrum, you have to make up for it by being a football player. Everyone knows one when they see one...

Good point. A.J. Green had like 4.5 speed, fast but not elite, but he could catch a medium slant across the middle and cut back to the other side of the field with break-away speed better than any UGA receiver I have ever seen.

most important aspect of any speed stat such as the 40 time, is the first step quickness

...player with the quickest 1st step wins most of the head to head battles

Or you're missing the point and it is quite the opposite.

I sure do miss AJ Green... UGA needs another stud All-SEC wide receiver (and a QB who can hook up with him)
