The whole thing seems more like a decision made from on high.......with Kirby going along with it only begrudgingly.

Doesn't seem to me like the guy who took away the helmet bone tradition and makes college kids wear suits for the dawgwalk would be big into jersey gimmicks.

My guess is that UGA realizes the paydirt financial opportuinities of blackout merchandise, hype, souvenirs, etc and told Kirby he could pick when to blackout, but not whether to blackout.

Wow. It is not often that JD and I align so fully on a topic, but IMO this is spot on.

edit: Holy crap, multiple posts and still in agreement. There was downside in missing G-day attendance. Also, re: toilet seats, we leave the seat down and close the door in order to ensure the little one doesn't get into them and/or drown.

I'll say it again, and I'll keep saying it so long as folks keep starting new threads about the jerseys:
quote:

This is working out exactly the way Kirby wants, I'd imagine. They laid this schedule out, back during the summer, and they're going to stick with it. A couple of "unimpressive" wins in the black jerseys while he's feeding the monster, then you break them out for a night game against Auburn or Tech next time? Profit.

If he does that and then we lay an egg, it totally backfires on him.

I understand what you are saying, Crow...but if we get beat by ULL, then he'll have bigger things to worry about than wearing black jerseys.

Love the black jerseys, but I would have to see the black pants.

I agree about the helmets. I don't like any team changing helmet designs or colors for that matter. Uniforms colors every now and then, fine; but not helmets. I can't put a finger on it; I guess I'm a traditionalist. I would like to see us wear some red pants with white jerseys or even all whites some for nostalgia sake.

Expect significantly more penalties in that uniform. For whatever reason, teams in black draw more flags.

I don't remember it. Just found a picture, though. If we are not going to wear white or silver pants I prefer the red. The black isn't bad, though.

My preference, exactly. The red pants we wore while Herschel was at UGA looked good.

I agree. Also wouldn't mind all white units occasionally, like from the pre-silver britches era, (Goff/Rex Robonson/ are the first teams I can remember as a kid.) But if I had to pick between all white and white on red I would go with the red pants.

2 things that I'm totally opposed to on unis (aside the obvious like the pro combat disaster) are changing the helmet in any way and wearing white pants.

Last time I recall wearing them was against tech in 00, it's not that they necessarily look bad, I just think we should wear silver britches. And our red helmet with the black G should be unchanged forever.

Okay...this makes no sense to me. How can you be okay with a different uniform but not okay with a different helmet?

I don't think it will be anything anybody can explain. We are, basically, traditionalists. We like very little changes to the uniform, if any at all. Georgia has always had the red helmets and we want to keep it that way. We think it looks better and can go with any combination of jersey, pants.

It's not that we necessarily don't think the black helmets look bad.....(I think they look ok),,,we just think the red is "Georgia". It is our identity and brand. You see a red helmet with a "G" on the side and automatically think, Georgia. If you see a black helmet I think Grambling.
