So is Kirby trying to lessen the hype of wearing black jerseys by wearing them vs Louisiana Lafayette?

I'm just glad we're finally using them. We got blue-balled so many times (Auburn '14, Kentucky '13, etc.)

I think he's just giving the fans a small gift.
I would love to see black helmets, black jerseys, and black pants. Night game. Dim the lights. Then slowly bring them back up as the team runs onto the field.

That's probably a good way to put it. If he had broken them out for Auburn and then we lost as expected, it would have been a continuation of the black jersey curse. Regardless, it's definitely better to use them during cool weather.

Yes. Trying to take the fake juice out of them so we can wear black more often without it being such a big deal.

He just wants them for recruiting, most likely.

The whole thing seems more like a decision made from on high.......with Kirby going along with it only begrudgingly.

Doesn't seem to me like the guy who took away the helmet bone tradition and makes college kids wear suits for the dawgwalk would be big into jersey gimmicks.

My guess is that UGA realizes the paydirt financial opportuinities of blackout merchandise, hype, souvenirs, etc and told Kirby he could pick when to blackout, but not whether to blackout.

I've never understood why wearing your teams primary colors is considered gimmicky or needed for hype. We should wear them more often

UGA is Red and Black

When I was in High School we played a team that wore that exact combination. I have to admit they looked bigger and badder in those uniforms.

However, I don't like the black helmets for Georgia. Love the black jerseys, but I would have to see the black pants. I really don't care to see us out of the red helmets, though. Just a personal preference.

I think we need to take the bad juju out of them

Within the next few years I can see them coming out for big home games in the 3:30 and 7/8 spot. That said black jerseys in the early games would be horrendous for the athletes if it's a day game.

It's all about crootin'. Kids love the black jerseys and therefore Kirby loves them too. I'd bet it was Kirby's call to bring them back, or he was at least the main catalyst in making them a regular thing (ie not a special gimmick like it has been built up to) just for the sake of making the recruits happy. Judge Smart's coaching all you want, but his recruiting acumen is well documented.

If Kirby loves them, then how come his face looks like he just lifted the toilet lid and discovered his grandfather forgot to flush a batch of floater deuces........every time he's asked about them???

Doesn't add up at all. I can guarnatee you that bringing them back wasn't Kirby's decision.

Because he wants the jerseys but not the hype that is attached to them. He's trying not to hype up any sort of blackout imo.

Why did Kirby hype up the GDay game and call for a sellout? In part and probably mainly for recruiting right?

So, if you can understand that then wouldn't it make more sense that hyping a blackout and igniting the insanity that comes with it be much better for recruiting, then downplaying it like he is. ANd treating it as something he is enduring rather than enjoying?

Look. Kirby thinks of black jerseys same as he likes finding surprise unflushed grandpa dumps. Trust me.

Because there was no downside to that

If he does that and then we lay an egg, it totally backfires on him.

Because getting all excited about wearing a different jersey color is stupid....and Kirby's not stupid.

I think some older people maybe put the lid down over the toilet to keep the dog from drinking out of it. But, why not just close the bathroom door instead? This would prevent someone from lifting the lid and being scarred for life if they forget to flush..

If he called for a GDay sellout and stadium only ended up being half full, I'd call that a "downside".

We laugh at Tech for stuff like that.

We do, but that doesn't actually matter. Half full would have been better than previous GDay attendence, and that was unlikely anyway with the new staff and Eason.

Getting your arse beat on national TV in some new unis matters a lot more.
