They do pay me 6 figures to put up with this shite, but fortunately can work from home when I choose (and when not traveling). Honestly, if you don't like big cities, then I get it, but if you choose to live in a metropolitan area, ATL is far better than most. I can walk from my house to go fly fishing or hop in the kayak or even do a little light bouldering, the restaurant scene is actually better than most cities I visit, and relative to a NYC, CHI, BOS, or even DC, the weather can't be beat and the traffic is actually better (not by a ton, but it is actually better - with lone exception that drivers here seem to struggle with the concept of merging... alternate like a zipper you fricks v^v^v^). I used to also fault ATL drivers for losing 30-50 IQ points in the rain, but have since learned that's all cities, even fricking Seattle where it rains all the God damn time.

I get it... if you are from fricking Soperton, GA, or wherever else in central/south GA where the most cars you see at any given time is like 6 and the most lanes in any direction is 3 even including the interstate, that Atlanta is a bit sketchy. But you could say the same if you visited any of the cities I listed above, or hit JAX or ORL in heavy traffic. I spent a year plus living in ORL and saw more heinous accidents there than i have in almost 10 in Atlanta... short story is tourists are fricking idiots.... drunk tourists even bigger ones.

Personally, I'm good with it. We need more people moving to Atlanta like I need a second taint. But the constant bitching around here about the city that quite literally keeps this fricking state afloat and out of the realm of Mississippi territory is so tired. Come up with something new.

^^^^^^^^
x 1,000

People from small towns in GA like to poke at Atlanta because 1) they have an inferiority complex because they don't live where the bulk of Georgians live, and 2) they don't really know anything about Atlanta because they've never been here. Sure, they came to a couple of Braves games, maybe a Falcon game here and there. And maybe they came to cousin Eddie's wedding in Stockbridge and thought they were in Atlanta. Metro Atlanta has everything; city, country, lakes, mountains, hiking, biking, boating, fishing, water skiing, restaurants, hotels, pro sports, shopping. Everything that the small town country folk have and so much more. Yes there's traffic. The reason is that everyone wants to live and work in this wonderful metro area and it creates rush hour traffic, just like all medium to large cities. Even Chattanooga has traffic.

I, too, make 6 figures to live here. And I wouldn't live anywhere else in GA except maybe Athens or the GA coast. I work from home and travel when I want. I avoid the traffic by generally staying out of it until it dies down. I'm 5 minutes from a mountain and a lake, 30 minutes from downtown. An hour to the north GA mountains. I can hunt, fish, hike, etc. any time I want.

Atlanta is not a concrete jungle. It's one of the greenest major cities in the world. People who make negative comments about Atlanta have simply never lived here or visited much. I've heard over and over "you couldn't pay me to live in Atlanta" from South GA folks. Well, no one's going to. So you enjoy where you are and we'll enjoy it here.

This is not as true as I wish it was. Particularly in the last couple of years, I feel that the truly shite drivers that I see doing dangerous things and causing problems have Gwinnett, Fulton, Cobb, Dekalb, etc. plates. The non ATL drivers that cause problems are the ones that clog up the left hand lanes going 55 and white knuckling the steering wheel... while incredibly irritating, it's not the worst thing and often times that's the catalyst for even worse driving

Sometimes Atlantans drive recklessly because Billy Bob from Hahira is coming through in his '87 Ford pickup on his way to visit Aunt Mildred in Soddy-Daisy, and he's doing 45 in the left hand lane on 75 and wonders why all these folks are riding his bumper and trying to get around him. Then you have Latoya who's doing the same while texting and "ain't gettin' over for anibody". There are exceptions, but these kinds of situations are all too often the rules.

How many people here do you think had to Google Sofdy Daisy before they found out it a real community?

By the way, I do applaud Billy Bob for visiting his aunt Mildred in Soddy-Daisy. No one ever comes to see here since she stopped puttin' her teeth in. Plus she's a Tennawecee fan and she dips snuff. But I wish Billy Bob would finally come to the notion that the slower traffic is supposed to be in the right lanes.

DC at least has a functional subway/ public transportation system so you can get around fine without a car. Part of what makes Atl uniquely miserable is that we have no option but to ensure crazy drivers/sit in absurd traffic.

every time I converse with ATL guys and they find out I'm from rural south GA they almost always immediately ask if I've got any good places to hunt. I need to just point them to you. Poor fools didn't realize they've got it at their own back door.

The funny/sad part is that if the state of Georgia was ever able to secede from atlanta, and atlanta became it's own state........those commies would start banning guns and other perverted disgusting commie shite within the first month into their statehood. frick them.

Jeff, I like a lot of your posts, but when it comes to Atlantans, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Freaknik 1995 - in town to see the Dead (March 29th, third night of a four night swing, got an Unbroken Chain on a ten strip). Craziest traffic I've ever heard of, luckily we were coming in from the north side. Made it out to Shakedown Street at Stone Mountain. I believe that Friday was the day all those folks just abandoned their cars on 285 and 75/85 on the south side of the city.

There are more deer killed in GA north of Macon every year than south of Macon. Look it up.

I'm total opposite. I can walk outside and hear nothing but nature. I don't have to worry about security systems or loud construction. The closest neighbors are 20 acres away. I hate driving in Atlanta, but I do it when I have to. But I would love for some of you to drive down backroads when it is pouring rain.
And no I'm not a redneck I have Internet.

To each his own. I like being in a city because there's always something to do. Maybe the suburbs one day when I have a family.

Can't be any worse than driving through a whiteout blizzard.

wrong...

2014/2015 harvest record indicates that there were 210,526 deer harvested in the upper and lower coastal plain regions....vs. the 201,544 killed in the piedmont, ridge and valley, and blue ridge regions combined...that's almost 9,000 more deer killed in "South Georgia"

Business Opportunity.

When I travel I85S to I285E, like a sane person, I merge right starting at the 2 mile sign. Sure, it's slower, it's more congested, but I'm putting myself in position to calmly ease from an 80 mph moving parking lot, to the inevitable 0mph parking lot.

I'm exiting, I'm going 45 mph. Every time there is an a-hole who flies up, 100 feet from the ramp who crosses over two or three lanes to my left, turns on his blinker and cuts in. I've seen them snubbed, forced onto the emergency lane, where they turn on their emergency blinkers and...start backing up.

My proposal.

There has to be more excitement here then at most Nascar tracks. Put some bleachers on the west side, sell smoked turkey legs.

Now you're talking.

No signs until 100 yds to on ramp.

That reminded me. I was going to Roswell to visit some friends on a weekend night and on 285 noticed a string of police lights pulling out just past 85. They fanned out and essential stopped all traffic to a slow roll. They also had cops blocking on ramps....it was a pretty big production. I was in about the 3rd row. Not quite poll but still pretty good.

We slowly rolled a few miles until we saw what the deal was. They had pulled several bucket trucks out and we're painting or repairing a bridge/sign that required no traffic. They had us going about 7 mph for what felt like an hour. They were wrapping up as we approached and the trucks pulled off and the cop cars pulled over....leaving a wide open 285 in front of us.

I've never raced NASCAR but that was as close to a rolling start at Daytona as I'll ever see. Those in the front of that group will always remember that....I promise you ...
