WTF? I'm no yankee. What makes you think that? I grew up in AL, graduated HS in GA and am a UGA alum. GFY

While y'all are talking about Athens restaurants, do any of you remember the name of the sandwich & pizza slice place on Baxter Street about halfway up the hill in the early 1980s? I've been trying to remember the name of it for years, but no success. I remember the Flamingo Room, Shrimp Boats, Domino's and Guthries, but not the sandwich place.

Because you're actively trying to turn athens, GA into a suburban-atlanta cookie-cutter strip mall..

There used to be a sandwich/pizza place right next to Baxter Street bookstore. It changed ownership/names a bunch while I was there and the only name I remember was "The Blue Monkey". I remember they had an Adam's Family pinball machine. It's a four story luxury condo trust-fund-ATL student beehive now.

That sounds like the right place, but it wasn't called "The Blue Monkey" when I ate there. Thanks, though!

I saw that place when we went to the Shell for beer. Jimmy Johns and whatnot there. Terrible.

Opinion of the resident GSB bully. However, how is that "yankee" material. Pardon me for exploring business opportunities. If there's a need and it puts my kids though college, its an option that's on the table. So instead of showing how crusty you are, how about some ideas for other types of businesses Athens could use? Doesn't have to be a restaurant.

I noticed that they could use a gas station that actually opened when the sun came up. Getting beer at 9 was unacceptable.

Don't want your lunch money. ...

Or your gluten-free chain burgers and riblet baskets. Yankee go home!

You should open a place that sells e-cig vapor accessories and also provides hacky sack and fedora re-stitching. Maybe sell Fireball mini-bottles by the register. And also lottery tickets

If you guys are excited about yet another chicken joint, then about anything else would be a plus.
