Tech drops 8 into zone. We ran on 3rd down plenty that game. 7 of 8 were dropping back on the snap. Interesting call in that situation. Especially since we had been running it very well.

I fully believe Kirby saw the end of the Auburn/Bama game and knew we had to win this upcoming weekend. He held out a few players and went very vanilla after getting some looks at Bama.

Was that the play that we threw the pick?

If so I was shocked we didn’t run it given how effective we’d run it all night.

What I am saying is Tech called a play pre-snap that was pass all the way, which was the correct call, but based on our tendency that game, would have been 50/50 at best. Wondering why they would have dropped 8 on that. If we run it, they are not in the best defense to stop us. Especially in the little gaps that we tend to run through.

Dumbest call of the season.

If Tech makes a normal 3rd and goal call from the 5 it is not a dumb play call. If Beck could do it over again, he throws it out of the end zone, but he has been playing confident ball and thought he could fire it in there and almost did. The bounce and int were a fluke.

Yeah

Fans love it the 20 times that it works.

But it is the dumbest decision when it backfires in a win against a rival.

Fans are idiots.
You don't get "NFL throws" in college without making high risk throws.

Yet, I keep going back to them dropping 8 on that. Just a strange call.

I hadn't done a rewatch.
Good catch on that.

Brooks Austin noted a bail technique on the backside of toss sweep. We successfully ran to the weak side multiple times in the game.

So it makes sense that there was an emphasis on bail at the snap by GT. But it is odd at the goalline.

Here’s what we know:

Given our success on the ground and our tendencies, everything yells run;
Tech drops into protection as if they know we’re going to pass;
We end up passing

They have an army of nerds so I’m going with either stealing signals or they have AI making their pre-snap calls.

Maybe things aren't as coincidental as we thing. The auburn/bama game screams being rigged...

Could have just been a part of the chess match. Everything screams that we're about to run the rock again, so much so that it's too obvious.

They had a few blitzes we easily dismantled during the game, so it's not like they knew they could bottle up the run. But they could really clog all the passing lanes and make Beck win the rep with his arm. Even if it's a run, the Tech defenders can rally to get the runner down short. Much harder to stick with our receivers if you anticipate a run and then we sneak a few guys behind their secondary. I'd take my odds covering the pass and praying a defender can make a great individual play to stop a rushing TD over letting Beck rifle one into a more open endzone on play action that makes everyone bite in.
